This Year's Model Updates:

Antilock brakes are standard on all models for 2006. Heated cloth seats are now available on the LT, the LS features body-color fascias and the LT gets body-color rearview mirrors.

Pros:
  • Long wheelbase affords plenty of interior room, fore/aft-adjustable rear seats, high crash test scores, available side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Limited choice in drivetrains, confusing stereo control layout, slow steering response.

  • But for poor mileage, nice vehicle - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Seat belt latches placed too inconveniently close to center storage/armrest. Hard to latch up and thus discourages use thereof. Mileage not too good with air conditioning running and AWD. Average about 15 in city driving. Could be better. Visability improved. Storage in rear improved. Comfortable ride and like a passenger vehicle and not a truck. Easy entry and exit. Seating ergonomics good. But, power seat does not have seat back adjustment in power mode. Lack of foresight by engineers. Minor problem but for some short person may be a problem.

  • Im happy - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I researched, compared, and test drove the Honda CRV, Toyota Rav 4, Suzuki Grand Vitara, Hyundia Santa Fe, Ford Escape, and the Nissan XTerra. I found that although nothing in life is perfect, the Equinox was the best choice. It has the best safety rating, the most passenger and cargo room, the best "feel" on the road, the best exterior design, and the most for the money. Sure it turns wide, but its only 3 inches shoter than some full- sizr SUVs and that is to be expected. Fuel consumtion could be better, but is actually better than most of the vehicles mentioned above. Cheap looking interior? Maybe, but come on....its a Chevy, not a Mercedes. My family and I are so far very pleased.

  • Luv the car, hate the wheel radius - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I hunted around several dealerships lookning for various models of small SUV. This auto gets about the same if not a little better mpg than my Silverado pickup. The 1 thing that always fools me is when trying to pull into a parking space, I always need to start the turn early, due to this wide wheel base.

  • Problems Already! - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I have had this vehicle 1 month and it has been in shop 5 times and still has rattle when I hit bumps. It is getting 14.3 mpg in town and I am told that is normal. It rides great if I dont hit any bumps. It is roomy and I like the way it is arranged inside. All in all, I need to get rid of bump and get better gas mileage or my next vehicle will be another Toyota!

  • Crash Survivor - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I was t-boned on the drivers side by an Olds 88 7-7-08 at an intersection. My wife and two sons 8 & 6 were passengers. The force of the crash bent the floorboard causing the rear passenger wheel to buckle causing our SUV to roll. When it finally came to a stop we were laying on the drivers side facing the direction we came from. Surprisingly none of the air bags deployed. We all climbed out of the broken passenger windows with little more than minor scratches. I would give the Equinox a 10 for safety other than the extra chance of a roll-over crash that all SUVs have.

I bought this SUV in July of 05. Its a GREAT SUV! Runs great, looks great. Gas mileage isnt the best - I live in the Minneapolis area and do a lot of city driving. On average, Ive been getting around 17, 18 MPG. On the highway, best Ive gotten is 22-23.

  • Overall, a good choice - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Bought an 06 LT FWD with 12k miles and drove it for 16 months to 44k miles. Minor complaints: huge turning radius, noisy wipers and poor center console design. Lost traction in the snow and blew a head gasket getting unstuck. Covered by warranty and no other problems. Very comfortable and roomy for a small SUV. Average economy 23 mpg. Would still own it if gas prices hadnt gone so high in the spring of 2008 (I have a long commute and replaced it with a more economical vehicle).

  • If it isnt broke, dont fix it! - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Just bought this vehicle and everything appears well. Carfax report checked out OK. Driveability is good, mpgs are lower than expected in town. Sharp looking SUV although my model has wheel covers instead of alloy rims. Power seems to be sufficient at 185 hp. 45,000 miles and only routine maintenance. Pleased so far. Only downfall, as several have mentioned, is the suspension noise from the front end. Very disturbing on less than perfect roads.

Bought this car for my new job as a sales rep. I travel a lot and have to load the car to capacity with heavy/bulky job supplies. This car has been great for me, handles fine in all weather conditions, looks good, and has just enough pep. I had a Honda Prelude before this and I thought gas mileage and pep would be a concern but its been satisfactory considering that I load a lot of cargo in it. I think its a great buy and would prefer it over the Vue. I disagree with many of the other negative posts on this SUV, maybe they expected more but I expected less. I do find it uncomfortable after long trips, but I drive a lot and any car would be the same, IMO.
