Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Great starter vehicle for a family! - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Purchased my 2006 Equinox used with low mileage and at a relatively decent price. We have had many vehicles in our lifetime and can definitely say it is the most reliable so far. With gas prices high in NY it makes for a more expensive daily commute. However, the expense of gas evens out when it comes to repairs and maintenance. If you take care of this vehicle it will be good to you. I believe you get out of a vehicle what you put into it. A smart buyer is an educated buyer. It is possible that if you buy from a reputable dealer- This Equinox will suit your family needs.

  • Great Vehicle - 2009 Chevrolet Equinox

Purchased vehicle new and have put over 33,000 miles in 14 months. Love everything about this vehicle. Great comfort on long drives ( 2 vacations totaling over 5200 miles )Gas milage went from approx 25 mpg to over 30mpg after changing tires to Goodyear Assurance FuelMax.

  • Serious issues with electrical..... - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I purchased my Equinox in 08 and was very happy at first until I had serious issues 6 months after purchase. My Equinox kept bucking and went into the dealer to find out issue was the cylinder misfiring. This was fixed but 6 months later the lock on the drivers side would not work. This too was fixed. 2.5 months later the wipers would not work unless on high speed. Dealer fixed this issue. I was on the highway since I drive 50 miles to work and Equinox again started to buck. Again cylinder was misfiring. Dealer had to replace all wiring. Chevy tried to refuse stating it was due to me not keeping up with maintenance. Not true. I had to prove all the maintenance I had done. Not happy at all.

  • Very Good Car - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

We have had the car just over a year and have 16,000 on it now. Highway driving has resulted in 19 mpg (very high Kansas winds) at 78 mph, to 34 mpg with a tail wind at 65 mph. My wife loves this car, and I wish it were bigger. But, it is such an improvement over the 07 piece of crap equinox that we owned briefly.

  • Unreliability - 2009 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Although it has a lot of good features it is very unreliable since you must drive it long distances to keep the battery charged or leave it running if you are making a lot of short stops. If it sits more than 2 days you have a dead battery. The dealer can not seem to find the problem. The console is awkward to use where there are two people in the car. The defrosters and most vents come through outside air and across the engine. The air bounces off the window and into your eyes and bringing the toxins from the engine with it and stinging eyes and causing congestion. My small pickup has a better turning radius. I will take a lose trading it in for something other than a Chevrolet.

  • Best Crossover - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I have spent the past few months looking for a crossover. I have drove almost every make and model of vehicle I could think of. When I first saw the 2010 Equinox I was excited about the new look of this vehicle. The test drive was perfect. My new car handles better than any other I have driven. There is lots of room in both the front and back of the vehicle. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who is looking for a(n) SUV or crossover it will not let you down

  • Poor quality - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I purchased my 2006 Equinox new and have had numerous problems, such as the two visor makeup mirrors breaking off - only used several times by adults. The battery is hidden so well that I couldnt find it! Now the heater and ac doesnt work.Cost to repair a defect in a flapper is around $1000.I need the defroster for my long commute, so I guess I dont have a car for the winter. Huge front side pillars make driving in parking lots dangerous - almost ran over a pedestrian! Seats are uncomfortable, and the rear door is stiff and needs two hands to close. The CD player is picky about what it will play. Very disappointed in this car-cheap materials, overpriced vehicle.

  • Heater problem - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

The heater blend door broke and was quoted a $1,100 repair to fix. The car has 65,000 km on it. I called General motors head office and complained about the problem. I made my appointment to repair the vehicle at my local GM dealership and when the job was complete my bill was $224.00. Head office instructed the dealership to run it through as a warranty claim. I would like to say that this kind of service really restored my loyalty to GM. All parties involved really went above and beyond what they needed to. Thank you GM

  • Great for tall drivers - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Being 66", finding a comfortable car is tough. I tried most of the crossovers and bought my Equinox because I loved the room it gave me. Even with the front seat all the way back, passengers behind me have plenty of room. Its a great car for longer drives. Ive been very impressed with it, except the mileage isnt as good as advertised. We also own a 2010 Hyundai Tucson which has a lot more pep than the Equinox but isnt nearly as comfortable or as nice. Chevy has so far impressed me with this car!

  • Dont buy an Equinox - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Chevy would not honor warranty issues, I have 50k now, front seats have cracked and are pealing off, no I am not over weight, dash light brunt out with in first two years, very poor fuel economy, first two tanks highway an.d city driving not freeway stop and go I got 11 mpg, went to dealer they said nothing and that the EPA sets those, I got it for the fuel economy assuming that my driving I would get around 20 average. Now it has starting problems, and the ignition is binding up and it take three to eight tries just to be able to turn the key to start the car. I have always been a GM owner and have been extremely loyal, but the cheapness of this vehicle I will never look to GM again.
