Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Love my Equinox But...... - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I have had my 2005 Equinox since 2008. I love driving it but I do have one complaint..the electrical system is poor..I have had all kinds of trouble with lights..dash board lights do not work and the driving lights will not come on automatically when turned to auto..I am putting over $2000.00 into it to have the air bag light fixed and I still wont have dash lights as it would cost another $500. and I will still have to turn lights on manually...I think you really need to work on this problenm and give some type of refund for these repairs..

  • Buyer Beware!!!!! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I bought my Equinox New in Feb. 2005. Loved it at first. Then it started to fall apart. Visors fall off repeatedly, buttons on Stereo faded, key stuck in ignition, wore to the point I can take it out while driving. Turns over repeatedly with no start, Dealer said the electric fuel pump might be going out, to turn key on and off and wait to start it, mind you I had only 30k miles on it. The electrical malfunctioned, on-star could not even open the doors, key wont work in drivers door. Had to tow to dealer to get into my car, Fan switch went out, heater is all or nothing, air conditioner is going out, shifts hard, and now with 100k the head gasket blew.

4Cyl 2LT AWD. Awesome crossover bought it brand new--now 12K miles on it, very quiet, compact design and just fun to drive. AWD is amazing, went to the snow and did NOT require chains at all, it was snowing hard on I80 near Truckee CA headed to North Star ski resort. Average about 20mpg in the city, 30 on freeway. We used to have a Chrysler minivan, after test driving so many crossovers we decided on the Equinox, Im happy we did.

I originally leased in May 2006. Toward the end of 2008 I started looking around to determine whether I wanted to keep my Equinox or trade it in for something else at the end of the lease. I couldnt find anything at the price with AWD, the size, and features. I have a very stipped down model, one of the few I have seen without tinted windows (I know this is an option on the LS, but most of the LS models I see still have them), but do have the Alloy wheels. I ended up purchasing my Equinox from lease since it was better than anything else I could find. I havent had any major issues and its still running strong! Ive replaced the tires and front breaks and have about 61K miles.

Heater door broke, was quoted $1500 by local GM dealership ($250 for parts and $1100 for labour plus taxes) , charged me $50.85 to diagnose the problem, car had 77,500 kms. Contacted GM repeatedly - got voice mails, never spoke to "Jane" in person. Went out of town to another GM dealer paid $750 for repair, in December in Canada you cannot drive without heat or defrost. Feel "ripped off" , now the leather upholstery is splitting. Had to replace Bridgestone tires at 45,000 kms. Not happy with GM .... inferior product and by the lack of response I have to assume that they dont really care! My experience answers the question for me "why are so many people not buying North American cars

Purchased December 2009, now 22k miles, mostly HWY. Average 27 MPG, at 75+ MPH. No glitches, rattles, problems or issues. Looks great, is comfortable and a big improvement over the 2005 NOX we had (which we also liked and served us well). It looks, drives and feels like a $35k car.

  • Do they work or dont they. - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I used to love my car but once the airbags decided they didnt want to work anymore the love affair was over. The car has been in the shop three separate times and nobody can find the problem. The passenger airbag sensors dont recognize anyone in the car when Im driving. No matter how much they weigh. I no longer feel safe driving this chunk of metal.

  • Great so far! - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

My wife and I bought the Equinox LT2 AWD used with about 19k miles on it. Due to Chevrolets hit or miss reliability, we purchased the additional full warranty through 75k miles coverage. Since we bought it, we have put a ton of highway miles on it and now has 78k miles on it. The entire time we have had it--no problems thus far. The only thing we have noticed was the paint bubbles from road debris which isnt covered. I was completely surprised to read all of the terrible reviews about the Equinox on this site. We have had NO water inside, no transmission problems, no engine misfiring or anything. It has been a great buy for us and we would recommend!

  • Love at First sight ended in heartbreak - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Bought my 05 nox 6/1/04. Had recall within 2 weeks that was fixed. Had to carry it back to replace pass. interior door panel & shifter (under warr). Paint started chipping bad. Had problems w/ ignition switch. At 2 years it started going downhill. Driver power window motor/regulator, CD player, scrubbing noise which is the AWD apparently. The AC compressor went out, the interior stains with a single drop of water, the quality of materials is poor, paint chips, buttons fade. Now water pump went out & cracked heads in motor. Im out a few thousand dollars over this. I love my Nox & am extremely heartbroken to lose her. But I should have seen this coming, these are common problems w/ this car.
