Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Improve a few things and this will be a great vehicle - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

Bought mine new. I feel ALL vehicles are over-priced. I do like this SUV. Great styling, it starts right up, drives very nice and after 2+ years now and 36K miles no service trips required. I was in an accident. An Isuzu Trooper pulled out into traffic from a gas station and hit me at the rear door & panel area. Airbags deployed. My vehicle did well in the collision, much better than the Trooper. The driver of the Trooper was hurt (legs). Trooper had to be towed. I would recommend this vehicle over comparable vehicles (Toyota and Honda), but see my suggested improvements. If they fix those I would strongly recommend. Transmission shifting sometimes gets confused.

  • First 1000 miles - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox

Put my first 1000 miles on it, and so far no complaints. Fuel mileage over all is 24 mpg, getting around 29 mpg on the highway and 22 mpg in the city. I driver around 70 mph on the highway to give you an idea. Ride is smooth and quite! Plenty of power for this size of vehicle from a 4 cylinder engine. Chose the Equinox over the Terrain due to the cool blue/white interior lighting, the red of the Terrain is tough to take on a long trip. Now will see how it holds up over the years and miles.

  • Love it - LOVE IT - but wait, the check engine light just came on... - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

At 7800 miles I was driving to pick up a Pizza tonight thinking I should write a review on how much I love this Equinox. But on the ride home the check engine light came on and it stalled! I really do love this SUV. The styling and materials are top notch for the price. I love the handling and it is clear there are European underpinnings being used. It is very surefooted. I like the transmission and it makes good use of the 4 cylinder.

Overall Im quite satisfied with my purchase. Nice to have leather seats when its 13 degrees in the mornings. And we really love the remote start. I went all out with features on this vehicle and Im not at all sorry that I did.

  • poor mileage and runs poorly - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

The car ran great when new, now has 4500 miles on it and it starts to shake/missing when it lugs down in gear. Dealer said nothing was wrong so taking it to another dealer. This morning it made a grinding noise when I started it. Junk

  • LOVE, LOVE, LOVE - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox

I was dying for an Equinox and nearly bought a 2010 and boy I am glad I didnt! There is a huge comfort difference! I was worried about backseat space for my 9 and 5 year old but there is more room than I imagined and the trunk space is more than I need as well. The driver and passenger is beyond comfortable and I love the touchscreen radio and the controls on the wheel. My husband couldnt understand why I wanted one but now he loves it too! Gas for me so far was what I did in a 2005 toyota corolla ce. To me its a great vehicle inside and out! I dont think I have ever ridden in a more comfy vehicle. I will try to post when I have put more miles on it (so far 400)

  • Looks good, but think before buying - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

So I recently bought a 2012 equinox 2LT, pretty much fully loaded. One thing I did not realize was how low a profile to the ground that the model has. There is a rubber apron under the front bumper that drops the profile of the car to close to the ground--Im wary of driving it in the new England winter weather, afraid Ill bottom out on ice and snow. Ive easily scraped it on sidewalks or pulling up to a curb in a parking lot. Another issue is tough rear visibility. The rear window is quite small and it is difficult to see driving in reverse. As much as I like my first new car purchase, part of me is regretting not noticing these details before I signed.

  • New Equinox LS is a real value - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

In general the 2012 Equinox LS seems to be a great small SUV for the price. With only 1,000 miles on the vehicle I really appreciate the comfortable seats and tight ride. Of course time will tell. The only negative is the somewhat disappointing fuel mileage. I was able to squeeze 29 mpg on a road trip and thats 3 mpg less than the EPA/GM calculated highway mileage. Other than that this SUV seems to be all that it claims to be.

  • Dont do it - Dont buy this vehicle - - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

My transmission broke with 35600 miles. The cluch seemed to slip between the engine and the transmission causing the rpms to go to over 7,000. The car has been in the shop for 15 days and the mechanics do not have a clue as to what to do. I should have realized how terrible a purchse this was when I felt how underpowered that car is. After all you have a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder enging trying to haul around a 5,000 pound lump of metal. I got 300,000 miles with my old Jeep Cherokee and I have only gotten 35,600 miles on this thing before it broke down. This was a very unwise financial decision to get this Equinox.

  • best car Ive ever owned awesome gas mileage - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I been driving this car for two years now and I cannot find one thing I dislike about it. It exterior in red is awesome, modern and has a sense of power to it. The interior is spacious, utilitarian and upscale. The four cylinder engine is barely noticeable. The mobility is great as well. The gas mileage is everything advertised, I drove from California to texas and from texas to georgia this year, both trips over 1200 miles and averaged 29-30 mpg. the gas mileage actually was higher except for texas highways speed limit of 80mph. also to note that the first leg of the i had a payload of 600lbs + 2 people and the second trip I had a payload of 800lbs and 2 people.
