Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Excellent Vehicle - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox

Recently bought 2012 Equinox LT2 with 6cyl and leather. Super comfortable seats, lots of room and rides/drives really well. MPG is around 24 combined. Back up camera is helpful, info screen is very cool. There is not one thing about it that I would complain about. Auto climate control and heated seats are great. We got the two-tone interior and it looks sharp. Great vehicle for the price

  • Unfortunate vehicle by General Motors - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Purchased a 05 Equinox in May 2006 with just under 26k miles on it. I assumed I was just in the right place at the right time and signed on the dotted line. The problems began immediately, but the real problem has been the engine. In 2008 with less than 60k miles on it the head gasket blew. GM refused to do anything, I paid 2,500 for the repair. Yesterday included, the heads have blown 4 times since purchasing. I complain to GM every.time and while they are aware of the known issue they continue to do nothing to rectify the situation. A quick internet search and you will find how common the head gasket problem is on these vehicles. I do not recommend anyone purchasing this vehicle.

I picked up the 2012 Equinox in Oct of 2011, it was a down grade from the Toyota Tundra for me. This car I got for the fuel economy, well I do get better gas millage then with the Tundra and I thought was let’s buy American. Well that was a huge mistake. Sense I got this car 3 months ago I’ve been in the shop 6 times and they still can’t figure out what is going on with it. Each time I’ve taken it in, I’ve been there for 6-8 hours each time. Some engineer for Chevy decided to not include brackets or mounts for future add on’s. So now that I want to add factory fog lights on my 1LT I can’t. Thanks Chevy. I first got the 4 cylinder which had no pick up on inclines at all, plus just to get me into a car, they wanted to do an aftermarket sunroof. I brought that on back and they put me in the 6 cylinder, that one has no pick up either, but now I’m stuck. The engine is so computerized now there is no way to do anything on the car yourself. Bottom line I Hate This Car!!!!!!!!!

  • I Missed My Old Equinox - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox

So for the past 3 years Ive been driving a truck, which I went to from a 2008 Equinox. I loved it and missed it all those years. Now that Im back in one, I have to say Chevy came a LONG way in their design. From the older models having a retro feel to the 2012s which have a more modern look. Im back in the vehicle I love.

  • I should have bought a Subaru ! - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

New car with nothing but problems. First couple of months the windows would go down y themselves and the car would fill with snow to the steering wheel. After that, had to have the ca.r jumped every week or two and the dealer found out after a year that the radio was comming on by itself and staying on until the battery was dead. Problem with key unlocking the car. $80 key for new car, what a rip off. Wiper expensive and they wear out quickly. Junk ! Started out with 31.2 MPG when new but now only 25 MPG. ?? Engine light now on and computer says bearing sensor and timing problem. Whats next ? Highly recommend you buy anything but GM car

  • Only 4 payments down and been to the shop 3 times! GARBAGE!!! - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I bought mine in July and not even two weeks later the car would randomly shut off when DRIVING! Then after about a month or so it would make load noises when starting up. Brought to dealership three times and all they did was put 250 miles on it driving it around to see why it stops rather can contacting someone who might know what to do. Now yesterday I went to start the vehicle and it wouldnt even start! Let me remind you I bought it brand new and have only had it since July! One more time to the shop and you better believe I will be contacting a lawyer for a Lemon Law! This is my first new vehicle and my last from GM. My honda accord had 170,000 miles and I never even once had a problem.

  • 7 payments down & 8 trips to the dealer for repair - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Love the car for every day use due to the value and style of the equinox. However, we have had several issues with our chevy. Started with a check engine light with less then 2K on the clock, (3K) loud noises upon start up, (9K) steering wheel felt like it would "lock up" while driving, rough idel, interior parts and molding not fitting/working. Chevy refused to extend warranty nor would they assist with a trade in towards a new Equinox...it says a lot about a product when the mfg will not stand behind it and give an additional 3 yr warranty. As far as the MPG goes...it has been pretty close to the 22MPG listed in town driving.

  • Overstated MPG - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I just bought a 2011 Equinox. I have been driving a V6 mustang for 11 years that gave me 18/22 and when I was looking to replace it after 11 years I decided on the Equinox due to its 22/32 MPG. I bought the 4 cyl engine thinking it will save in gas . . . big mistake! I should have just gotten the V6 as it is driving my normal drive I only got 19 MPG 80 % highway driving!! This overstating of MPG is a rip off to the consumers!! At this rate, I am no more better in gas mileage with my mustang who can zip in and out of traffic!! I will give it this winter to rate how well this AWD will do in the snow and ice before I complete this entire review

  • Why Chevy Still Doesnt Get It - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

We bought a 2011 Equinox and loved it - until yesterday. Five months old and the car simply died - while driving on the highway at 60 mph. Not what youd expect from a new car - stuff happens but what happened next clarifies why with all the gains theyve made, Chevy has a LONG way to go when it comes to understanding and serving their customer. When we the car died, we were able to pull over and call OnStar. They remotely diagnosed the issue (power train and transmission problems). But at this point they told us we needed to call ahead to the dealer to let them know we were getting towed there and they would not forward their diagnosis info to the dealer ("theyll run their own").

  • Blown head gasket - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

The car good the 1st year I bought it and then I started having problems with it running hot. So I took it to the car dealership to have it checked out and they checked it and they told me it was the cooling fans wasnt working which they was. Then the replaced the fans $872.29 and put in a new thermostat included. Then they called me back and told me it was still running hot that the head gasket was blown. Is there a recall on this type of car.
