Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • My 2012 Chevy Equinox is Awesome! - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox

Just switched from a porsche to Equinox. Wow, what a value in this vehicle compared to what I was driving. Okay, no more pep but thats a given. But everything else about this vehicle I love. The look, aero design, interior space (I do mean more great space), comfort and overall fun to drive. The value for what you are getting is wonderful. There is more technology in this SUV than I can ask for in relative to the price. Its so practical and I have more money in the bank too. Two thumbs up!

  • Really disappointed with this car..... - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Purchased car used in 08 with 25,000 miles on it. Within 4 months of purchasing the car attempted to start with no key, lights flashing on/off, radio turning on/off. Luckily it was under warranty and did it at the dealer so they saw it happen. Couple months later had to repair a bearing in the front wheel. Now with 55,000 miles, Im being told head gasket is blown. I also have a knocking noise coming from the rear, front door creeks sounds like its going to fall off. Ive been hearing a rushing of water noise in the dash, and a horrible smell comes from the vents whenever I have the heat or air on. I am lucky if I get 240 miles a tank. In contact with GM, hoping they help!!

  • 2005 Equinox Poorly Made - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I purchased the 05 equinox with 40,000 miles on it. It has had problems since right after i purchased it. I have had to replace the carrier barrier, heater core, AC unit, many thermostats, battery, cracked head gasket and i am sure much more. When i go to start the car half of the time it doesnt want to start and i have to keep turning it over and hit the gas for it to start, asked Chevrolet about it and was told that is just how they are nothing can be fixed. However i have read on here that it has something to do with a faulty wiring harness. The CD player will lock up and you have to take out the fuse so that it will reset its self. I would not recommend this car to anyone.

  • Too many problems for the price! - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I bought my car new in January 2008, and have had NUMEROUS problems. The motor to the rear windshield wipers went out just after the full warranty ran out (about 38000 miles). The check engine light has been on from about 50000 miles, with no explanation and no way to correct it. The alternator went out after about 60000 miles. GM paid for that, after some complaining. The battery has died several times, after having radio on for about 15 minutes with key on accessory. Still owe too much on it to do anything about it. Dont feel right selling it to someone else and passing off my problems to them. Wouldnt be worth whats owed on it anyway! Very discouraged! Should have stayed with Ford!

  • Great Suv to Look At - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Engine had lots of power and ran well new till it got about 300 miles and then it started "fishing" GMs words. they replaced cam censors. Then it ran good for awhile and then started again. The more miles I put on it the worse it is getting. GM wont fix

  • 2012 Chevy Equinox 1LT AWD V6 w/ All Star Package - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

This is our first American/Canadian vehicle and SUV. We were narrowing down the comparison to this and the Kia Sorento. After test driving both, it was not hard to decide on the Equinox. The only advantage we saw with the Sorento was the larger size, optional third row and 10 year warranty. At least this time, Chevy has matched Kias mileage warranty at 100,000 miles. The drive on the Equinox was smoother and quieter. Console design on the Equinox is more appealing to the senses. Just went over 1300 miles and have been averaging 20 mpg on mix city and highway driving. OnStar is a nice feature but costly. Actual highway mileage remains to be seen. Got it at about $500 below invoice:-)

  • Transmission problem - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I bought my 08 Equinox Sport new from a Dealer. I loved it from the start. However, the small narrow space between the console and the seats is impossible to retrieve anything dropped down there. I keep a 2 ft. "grabbit" just for that reason behind my seat. Too narrow for a hand and the seat track is too close to the console wall to get in there. Now, my tranny blew and is being called an "Internal proble" something to do with the valve body. The trans has to be replaced at a cost of $3900! Ouch! Anybody else have the transmission problem?

  • Worth the buy - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I purchased this vehicle in July 2011. It was certified preowned with V6 per my request. Drive this 3000 miles a month due to my 10 hr weekly commute out of state for work. Anyway while I agree with others it sucks in city driving, its great for highway. Manage to get 25 mpg at 70 mph. Got this vehile when it was almost 19K miles. Now Im approaching 49K miles. Not had one problem with it. Great runner for me. Purposely wanted a V6 for the ride and ease of driving conditions. Didnt think 4 cyl would handle the PAs valleys on the interstate roads. Thinking trading in for newer Equinox so I can have factory towing package (hd springs & shocks, beefed up tranny cooling lines).

  • Please so far - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Bought a 2012 LTZ AWD with V6. Significant upgrade from the Honda CRV we traded so Ill temper my enthusiasm until weve had it long enough to put some decent miles on it. Overall, very pleased with the interior (leather is firm but comfortable), features are pretty straight forward and within easy reach, ride is very soft and the cabin is quiet. Especially compared to the CRV. We have two preteen girls so leg room in the back isnt an issue. If there is one complaint, its that the V6 AWD Equinox is a very thirsty creature. Were averaging about 20mpg in mixed driving, however we kind of expected that going in so its not really a complaint.

  • Poor gas mileage - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I bought my 2011 Equinox new on January 1st. 2011. I have approx. 13,000 miles on it. I like almost everything about the vehicle except the gas mileage. I researched SUVs for several months before deciding on this one. My main buying point was that it had to have good gas mileage. This one said it had 27/32. I am lucky to get 26, and that is on the highway driving on a flat road with nothing but myself in the car. Ive checked the mileage every time I fill it up its never gotten better than 26. I was told it would get better mileage after I had my first oil change. This is a lie on Chevys part. I wouldnt have bought the car if Id known that was the absolute best it would ever get.
