Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

I have never had an SUV before. I am tall 64 and wondered if I could find one I could sit in comfortably. I must say the Equinox is that SUV. I have a sunroof, leather heated seats, and XM radio, all for a price that was affordable. My 1st venture into the SUV world has been great. I havent driven a GM product in a while I am impressed. You should look at this SUV you will be impressed

  • Do not buy! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I am so disappointed with this car. This was my first "brand new" car and its just awful. The road noise is horrible, check engine light came on a week after owning. The seats are horrible. I have the basic LS gray and they hold every spec of dirt possible. So I now have to use seat covers. The radio guages have lost all of their paint. So I can no longer see what channel I am turning to 1-5 etc. The doors are cloth and also get dirty very easily. The paint is scratching off the inside of the car near the door handles and such. My muffler is already completely rusted and the bumpers and molding are black and very faded. I have only owned for 10 months and would strongly advise against this! I will never buy a car from Chevy again. Even though this is the LS edition so its not top of the line, for the price I paid I deserved better lasting material.

The Equinox is a very fun car to drive. I have had mine a little over a year and still love it! It has a lot of rear seating space. My friend who is 67 fits in the backseat comfortably. I also play sports and my huge lacrosse bag fits within the cargo space. The stereo system is also very nice as well as the controls on the steering wheel. I feel safe driving and having passengers in this vehicle because of its safety features and handling.

I am amazed at the quality this Chevy has attained. Not to par as the top Luxury models, BUT, getting there. The design is a definite leap forward for Chevy. It has the looks without looking like a clone of everything else. Aggressive and yet sporty looking. I am particularly happy with the interior. It reminds me of a Mercedes in looks, texture, and feel. I am a sports car person, and would love more performance with a sportier handling package. However, for a first year vehicle, it is above par for a domestic. Also would love the city gas mileage to be a little better. My only problem has been some wind noise from the top of the drivers door. I highly recommend this SUV!

The Equinox in my opinion is one of the best values Chevrolet has in its line of vehicles. For the money, You cant beat a 2005 Equinox.

My Equinox has been back to the dealership 5 times in its short 3 months of ownership. The mileage is terrible, as low as 13.5 miles per gallon and an average of 15-16 miles per gallon. If this is the best Chevy can do, then Ill be driving over to the competition soon. Also GM was a bit cheap on the assembly line, in an LT model they couldnt even put lights in the vanity mirrors. The list goes on and on.

I have had my Equinox for about 2 weeks now and the only problems I can find are transmission rough shifting on downshifts occasionally and the power steering is to darn quick on the draw; you have to really be careful when you first start driving it until you learn the quirks of using electric steering. I traded a crew cab pickup in on this SUV and an very satisfied with the new vehicle. Optioned up pretty well but I would like to have a seat memory selection for driver as well as universal garage door opener but that was not a deal breaker. We will see how well this holds up long term.

At 67" I need some leg room. I was looking at Toyota Highlanders because the Rav4 did not have enough leg room and I was sick of Chevys (having had multiple problems with my Blazer) My father in-law bought one of these and raved about it so I stopped at a dealer and tried it out. Does not feel like a Chevy and for the price I got the all wheel drive which I could not afford on the Highlander. So far so good, no complaints.

  • poor gas mileage - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox

I am very disappointed with the gas mileage. I took a trip to Florida on straight flat roads and could only get 23 mpg. It had 4800 miles when I took the trip. I am used to getting 32/34 mpg on my 2006 Impala and it was a 6 cyl. The only reason I selected the Equinox was for the advertised great gas mileage. We had planned on taking a road trip around the country, however, with this mileage we will have to cancel. I wish I had kept my Impala!!

Just put in 600 miles on the Nox, no complaints so far. The ride is short of excellent. Everything positive I read about the reviews were true.
