Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Very Disappointed...Recall? - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Bought my 2006 fully loaded Equinox lt on Nov 8 2005. Less then 2 weeks later with 178 on odometer, the car is at the dealership for repairs. There is an overwhelming smell of gasoline. I have been told that a new fuel line and canister has to be installed. However, they do not know when they will arrive as they are a new design. This leads me to believe a recall is in the works! I cannot believe that they expected me to continue driving this car, especially when their mechanic told me the gas vapors could ignite! I must use a portable oxygen tank due to a medical condition and I did not think that was a good idea! They are paying for a car rental until the new designed parts arrive.

Just purchased vehicle September 2004, love it! Very roomy on the inside with comfortable seating. I have a 64" sister and she can fit without bumping her legs on the back of the seat. Radio controls are not as confusing as listed, very easy to drive, handle and has good pick-up. Nice amount of cargo space in back- we can fit our 90 lbs dog in the back. Is a fantastic buy and I recomend it to all who want an SUV, not a boat to drive.

My only complaint is really about Chevrolet and not the Equinox itself. Like a damn fool when I test drove it, I didnt think to check for a CD player because "what car doesnt come with one these days" Equinox is part of that answer. Apparently Chevrolet has decided that I dont need or want one. I spend a considerable amount of money making CDs with the music I wanted to hear on each one. Now Chevy tells me "tough sh_t, we will decide what you can listen to and how you will listen to it. The dealer helped me set up what is called Pandora to listen to music I like. What a bunch of BS. I have to make sure I have my smart phone with me just to hear my music. My last 4 vehicles have been Chevrolet or GMC. that wont happen again. I will decide what equipment I have on the vehicle I pay for, not Chevrolet.

  • Initial observations - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox

I traded in a Mercedes convertible, opting for an inexpensive, practical SUV. I studied Edmunds articles for two months and investigated several vehicles. In the end, the Equinox seemed the best value. The low price, warranty, hi-tech features on the LT1 model with the PDD option, and design won us over. On every count, the Edmunds review was accurate. The steering does have a video game feel, and some of the interior materials are not of the highest quality. Still, our initial impression and experiences have been very favorable. It drives well, and it is very user-friendly. Our last two purchases were the Mercedes and a BMW. The personnel at the Chevy dealership were as professional...

  • My First Chevy - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I love how it looks. Its fun to drive and handles OK in the snow but not when its icy. Its too light and needs more weight. I had a minivan with AWD and it handled better because it weighed more. The seating is nice and so are the heated seats. Love them, good for long trips. Headrests are a little too big and get in your view. OK on gas at about 19 mg hwy. Problems with leaky windshield at first, then leaky moonroof. Nice to have but not worth all the hassle. Drainage problems and rot in hose for moonroof. Windshield has problems when weather is bad, unable to clear windshield without hazy streaking. Told it is an environmental problem. My 8 yr old minvan didnt have that problem. Its very problemsome.

  • Nice Highway Vehicle - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

The Nox is an excellent highway vehicle. Smooth yet taut ride, handles well for a crossover. Im saving 30% on gas vs my old Mitsubishi Endeavor. However, big blind spots and tiny mirrors really limit side and rear vision. Ive heard concerns about the power of the 4 cyl engine, but Ive found it to be adequate. The 6 speed transmission works well to keep the engine in its power band, but it does take a while to get used to 6500 RPM shifts when you have your foot in it. For my shape, the drivers seat is just average for comfort (I prefer a flat seat over the heavily bolstered ones in the Nox). But I really like the rest of the interior (Im a fan of the blue interior lighting)

  • Best for the bucks - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Have had my Nox several months and is the best SUV for the money on the market. Goes where you want to go, does what you ask, and takes all you want to take inside it. Gas mileage was an issue until was broken in, now is good. Strongly endorse it as a mid size with big size room.

  • Love at FIRST Site... - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

When I purchased my Equinox,I was looking at the Blazer and Tracker. I found myself outside the Showroom getting a breath of fresh air when I noticed this row of Equinoxes. The look and design made me think it had to be in the 25 to 30K range. I was very surprised at the list price. The colors offered were numerous. I choose the Dark Silver Metalic. The first thing I noticed was the amount of pep from the V6. The handling is more like is excelllent,it sticks to the pavement on tight corners due to the wheelbase. The Tracker made me feel like it would tip over on a tight turn.

  • Good Gas Mileage! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Just checked my mileage for "city driving" and I get 20 mpg. I drive up and down a mountain twice a day - and I am thrilled with the mileage. I cant believe the leg room front and rear. The radio and window controls are user friendly - especially like the radio controls on the steering wheel. Rides and handles with comfort and ease of a sedan - not like most SUVs.

  • Worse car ever - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Its all about problems on this car. I bought brand new and so far i had 6 major fixes. The last one out of my pocket: 1) oil leak at 7K miles 2) freon leak at 10K miles 3) oil deep stick dry every 2K miles when it had 30K miles. GM would consider that normal 4) burning oil continued at 50K miles and GM issued a recall. They replaced the timming belt, and leaky fuel pump. 5) burning oil continued so they replaced cylinders, rings and spark plugs. 6) at 70K miles car shut with engine loss power alarm and engine alarm. I had to pay 930 dollars to replace throttle box and 2 cam solenoids. I called GM and they will not issue additional warranties. What is next???????? THis is a car that will break and have to trash under my budget. Please DONT BUY GM. They are a piece of garbage. I was reading everyone that has this problem on chevy equinox. How is it possible that GM is allowed to sell this car? Does it meet the EPA standards????? I doubht it...
