Overview & Reviews
Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.
Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

Excellent vehicle - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox
By oarsman - March 16 - 1:06 pmWe have a loaded LT1 with the 6cyl engine and love it. Wanted AWD (snow), good mpg, room for cargo and for a baby seat. Drove Hyundais, Subarus & the 4cyl Nox to compare. We live in CO and the 4cyl just didnt have the guts at 6k feet. Maybe at sea level but not here. Closest rival was the new Outback (very close call). After 5 mos, hwy mpg runs mid/hi 20s at 70 mph and avg 21 mpg overall. Very smooth ride at all speeds, nimble and surprisingly quiet (except when sunroof is open). Great traction in light snow/slush/rain - no blizzards yet! Excellent value for the money.

One Year Evaluation - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
By Jolene - March 12 - 5:33 amThis is the first American vehicle I ever purchased. I am extremely pleased with the performance, design, color, and comfort. There is also plenty of room for 5 to fit comfortably. Its a sharp looking SUV. Thanks Chevrolet, you will always have me as a loyal customer.

Incredile Crossover, Incredible Value! - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox
By Tim M - March 12 - 5:00 amI got my Equinox last week and its awesome! I got the LT2, Mocha Steel Metallic, Black/Brownstone Leather, Sunroof and Rear Entertainment. I am currently averaging about 24 MPG combined and hopefully it will go up. No problems so far and the 6 speed auto-transmission shifts very smooth. Fun to drive and very comfortable.

I love this vehicle! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
By ninabeans - March 6 - 8:16 pmVery nice to drive. Gas mileage is a little dissapointing, but could be a lot worse. Lots of cargo room, with a shelf in trunk that is rubber on one side (for tailgating parties, grocery, etc) and shelf can be propped up to hang groceries and create more cargo space.

Nice car, but disappointed in safety ratings - 2018 Chevrolet Equinox
By John - March 4 - 2:51 amThe new Equinox is a nice looking car, the interior and exterior changes (much needed) look great. The seats could be a little more comfortable and the visibility is just ok. The option packages basically require you to buy/lease an LT2 or higher to get any kind of safety equipment. The old Equinox was a 5-star safety-rated vehicle, this one is only 4-stars. The tests hadnt been done when I leased; if I had know GM was going backwards on safety I wouldnt have leased it. They made this version smaller and lighter, apparently at the cost of safety...bad move. The 1.5L engine is a dog; the 2.0L Turbo is great though with over 250HP, its more than this vehicle will ever need. Braking seems to be really good as well. Now for the bad news....at just under 4k miles the compression went out. Now GM fixed it right up for me and provided a nice loaner while it was being worked on, but come on, a brand new $34k car should not break down after 4k miles! Overall, the new Equinox is a very nice looking car, the 2.0L engine has great power and its pretty fun to drive. However, with the downgrade in safety and the need for repair after just 4k miles, I would not lease another one.

My New SUV - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
By Sandie - March 2 - 12:56 pmI just purchased this vehicle, so I am still getting used to it. So far, I love it. A lot of interior room. Comfortable to drive and ride in. I like sitting up high above most other vehicles in this class and I love that it has a great crash rating. Dual front and side curtain airbags, a must in this day and age.

Great SUV - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
By Dave - February 13 - 4:03 amI bought this 2005 because of its low miles. It is very quiet to respond in steering and has great handling. We really like the AWD. I would like to see a little better gas mileage. The headlight system is a little confusing and it could use better lighting on the floor by your feet. Also on the highway there is some wind noise at the mirrors.

regret buying - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
By tobycat - February 11 - 10:00 amPurchased on 5/30/04. Went in to replace strut bushings at 600 miles. Went in to replace strut bushings at 1400 miles. Was told that there is a design flaw in the struts. Parts ordered. Now almost two weeks and no parts. GM tecnical services was involved at the second occurance. With the exception of this problem, I really like the Equinox. Being 65" tall, I have no problem with entering or exiting. . Right now I feel like returning the Equinox to the dealer for another vehicle. Feel very frustrated with the inactivity in correcting the problem with the suspension. If there is a design flaw, the Equinox should not have been sold without corre

great buy - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
By azsunnydvl - February 11 - 10:00 amThis SUV is a great buy for the money, it has features like an in dash computer and XM radio which is a total ungrade from my last car. It is really comfortable to drive and the ride is smooth. The was the car turns is the only down point, sometimes is seems to leen too much into turns. Other than that I would recommend this for a future purchase.
