Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Loving My Equinox - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I truly love this vehicle. My Equinox is easy to control, drives wonderfully, very good on gas and it LOOKS good. I love all the room within the vehicle. And the features I truly enjoy, such as the DVD player, satellite radio, sunroof and the OnStar. I especially like the OnStar system, due to the fact that I know Im protected at all times. The vehicle notifies you of mechanical problems.

  • So far, so good - 2016 Chevrolet Equinox

Im a traveling salesman and spend quite a bit of time on the road. I wanted a vehicle with decent comfort and fuel mileage, but even more important was passenger comfort. No other small or even medium SUV has the rear legroom of an Equinox. I can fit 4 good size adults comfortably. The sliding rear seat makes all the difference. If I need more cargo space, I can slide the seat all the way forward and have a large cargo area... Or conversely, slide it back and have massive leg room for passengers. The one downside so far is the navigation... It is very clumsy to operate and will only hold a maximum of 30 favorite destinations. Even my $100 TomTom held 100 favorites.

  • I was wrong - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

This is a 2nd chance review. We took the car on its first long trip (still less than 1000 miles), and it got almost 30mpg on the highway. It was a pleasure to drive for an extended period, unlike the Subaru we rented for a vacation. I should have waited before submitting that first review, but I was very disappointed at that time.

  • Must have! - 2017 Chevrolet Equinox

I had a 2009. I recently got the 2017 and I love it. The only thing that I can complain about is the connection with my phone. When I plug it in, it automatically goes to music on my phone. That and making calls through the phone. When you try to use the phone and not the Bluetooth it will reconnect you back to the Bluetooth. Other than that, I love it!!!

  • A Big Positive Surprise! - 2018 Chevrolet Equinox

We leased this car as basically an around town vehicle. We own a 2017 Tahoe Premier but as nice as it is on the road, it is a bit clumsy in town. So we leased this FWD LT Equinox for our everyday driving. Weve been so impressed with it in town that we took it on a 300 mile trip today and we were totally impressed with the powerful engine, great driving dynamics and general comfort on rural highways and interstate roads as well. We arrived home and began to ask just why we actually own the Tahoe, this new Equinox is that good. It is a comfortable, usable package with good seats, clear controls and an impressive 1.5 liter engine. We had read less than positive things about the 1.5 liter engine but it is more than enough engine for this SUV. Our trip today of 310+ miles averaged an impressive 33.2 mpg with speeds of 65 to 80 mph. We are quite impressed with this new Equinox.

I like this vehicle a lot. It is roomy, quiet and very comfortable. I purchased it over a van because I wanted to haul all of my cleaning supplies, yet still have room for 2 or more passengers. My other vehicle is a 2005 Ford Escape, so you know that I prefer these smaller SUV-type vehicles. The difference, however, between the Escape and the Equinox is pretty much day and night. Where the Escape is square, the Equinox is round. The Escape’s ride is bumpy – the Equinox is Very Smooth. The Equinox is just as much and better than most sedans.

After 50,000 miles its been a great car. The overall performance has been better than expected for the price. Very good on the interstate or the backwoods.

  • Excellent - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

This vehicle was purchased for me in October of 2004. When I first got in the vehicle I felt like I was sitting in total comfort. When I drove it, I was totally surprised how smooth the ride was. I love the fact that everything is reachable and easy to access. I especially love my XM radio, the OnStar system, multiple electric outlets, and the tailgate table. I also love the six CD changer and all the extra space I have when I let down the back seats. I love my Equinox and since I have gotten it I have convinced many friends and other people I have met to purchase one for themselves.

A very decent midsized SUV for the price. How can they sell a a safe, roomy, well-equipped AWD vehicle with decent power for around $20K? Simple: Get the engine from China and assemble the vehicle in Canada with 50% foreign parts. Would feel better if GM included the 5-yr/100K powertrain warranty like the 2007 model.
