Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • 6,000 mile follow-up review - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

Factory-ordered gold-mist titanium LT1 last August. 3,000 mile trip thru the Rockies over the holidays. Drove with "eco" button turned off in the mountains fully loaded with family of 3 and the 4 cylinder handled the snowy slopes without much whimper. Getting 24 mpg in city, 35 mpg @ 50 mph on flat road, 26 mpg @ 70 mph. Handles very well in all conditions. The dash makes for a very enjoyable experience especially with an iPod. Controls are positioned very well. Only regret is they dont offer much discount or 0% financing but when you have a real winner at a reasonable price, why should they I guess?

  • My 2005 Equinox Performs well - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

My needs require the regular transport of 3 or 4 adults to jobs and other events. The Equinox provides great leg room, easy access and a comfortable ride for these adults and for children. The smooth shifting five speed transmission coupled with a reasonably high torque engine provide good acceleration. I have driven it in numerous snow storms and it handles and maintaints traction very well. I have been very pleased with the Equinox.

I am so happy with my choice, I test drove similar crossover vehicles such as honda, kia, hyndai, nissan, ford escape, ford edge and they could not touch the quality, smooth quiet ride of the equinox. I took my time in shopping for 2 months. I Love Love the mileage Im getting, great execeration. I feel like Im riding in a luxury car instead of a suv. I get mucho compliments all the time on its exterior style and looks. I got silver metalic exterior with all black interior and 18" polished alum wheels.

I have had no problems with the vehicle! Love to drive it - rides very smooth. Instruments are user friendly and easy to access. Performance and handing are great. I would definitely choose the Equinox again!

  • First SUV - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

For a first SUV, this is not too small, not too big. New 2005 came with 1 year of free Onstar & 3 months of free XM radio. Interior is leather, very well designed and spacious. It offers lots of places to put things, but is missing a place to lock/secure any items. Not ideal for women who usually leave purses or valuables locked in a trunk.

I just bought my Equinox the other day...and I LOVE IT. All I can say is you need to hurry out and get one...dealers are already hiking up the tag because of the demand. NOX ROX!

  • EXCELLENT VEHICLE - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I had a difficult time getting the vehicle because I wanted an AWD LT with the Laser Blue and XM radio. I finally bought one at my local Chevy dealership with everything I wanted except the XM radio. Im hoping that I can get a factory XM installed in the future.

  • The best choice I could have made! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

It took me about four years to find a car or truck I really wanted and Im glad I waited. This truck is perfect, very easy to drive and also a lot of fun. Definitely a head turner. The stereo system is fabulous, storage space is adequate. Love all of the outlets: I can play my iPod and charge my phone at the same time. Legroom in front and rear is phenomemal. Fuel economy is pretty decent too. I also like the fact that, while it does sits higher than a car, you dont have to take a running leap to get in, like the Tahoe. Very affordable for all of the value you get from this vehicle. Dont sleep on this one! What a winner!

  • Cargo Area - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

The only fault I have found in this vehicle is the fact that the rear seats do not fold absolutely flat. This presents a problem when carrying my dog in her crate along with luggage. Also, I wish thaat the rear seat head restraints were removable as they do present a somewhat obstructed view and I seldom have rear seat passengers. The ride is comfortable and the steering very responsive on the highway.
