Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • TO AVOID - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox

Very disappointed with the vehicle. And GM in general it is the second GM vehicle I had to get rid off during last 3 years.First was bought in 2010 with only 65 000 miles I traded in 2014.When I got rid of Equinox it only had 93 000 miles.Even when I test drove it the acceleration was somewhat sluggish , but since I LIVE IN A NOT VERY POPULATED AREA and all the entertainment options seemed attractive I bought it used qith 88 000 and drove it only 5000 miles before trading it in.Had to change some suspension parts , windshield washer had to be fixed , heater was Ok , but A/C was pretty lousy and you could smell gas .Handling was Ok , but it had a turn radius of a military tank, custom Pioneer speakers did not sound that great.Best MPG I ever reached was around 22.At about 93000 while on a freeway all gauges started dancing I started losing power , then it felt like if someone hit the brakes.I pulled over and gave engine some rest and drove home on a small country toad vehicle felt like if someone mad was dancing on accelerators pedal.I drive my family in this pos vehicle so I considered trading it in even though I lost $ , I gained experience and GM lost another customer for life.

  • Great Car for the Money - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I searched the market for an affordable SUV and feel as though I have found the best one out there. I have owned several Jeep products and have been a foreign sports sedan snob as well. My Equinox is just the right car for me now. The family and I have taken two trips to Vermont from Connecticut, one in very heavy snow and the Equinox has perfomed admirably. I stop at the gas pumps more often than I am used to...the combination of a smaller tank and lower gas mileage than I am accustomed to but I love it.

  • WOW-- What a great SUV!! - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

The Chevy Equinox is designed to look like a $45,000 vehicle but has the $25,000 price tag. The leather interior and chrome accents on the outside of the SUV make it much more appealing then the import models like the Rav4 or CRV.

So far, so good. Only have had it for a short time, but runs nice and is comfortable. Kids love it. Plenty of room for their stuff and to take their friends along. Not sure about gas mileage yet, have heard mixed reviews, but will be the judge myself. Great vehicle for the price, nothing in its class can touch the value.

  • My Opinions - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I love my car but there are a few things I would definitely change now that I am an owner: There should be an interior light at the front of the car between the sun visors When the gas is low, it should ding and not just show the gas tank lit up. I have been lucky to be near a gas station when I finally noticed. The steering is a little more difficult to handle when parking than a regular car. Not much storage space in the front of the car

  • Needs Some Improvement - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I have owned this vehicle for almost 3 years and 85K miles. Overall, I been pleased so far. I like the ride and the stylish exterior. Things I dont like: I have had the radio/CD player replaced 6 times, sometimes I have problems with it starting (its never actually not started just a little hesitant), silver interior on doors and around radio chipping off, awkward placement of cupholders, gas mileage not what I was expecting, small gas tank, and placement of window controls. Ive decided to keep and see how long it will lasts since its almost paid for. Overall, a good car for the money, but could definitely use some improvement.

  • Surprising value - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

The Equinox, though not perfect, is a remarkable buy. I was concerned about early reported defects, but mine arrived with no problems. Do yourself a favor and get the leather option. In LT trim, its only $550 and makes a huge difference in interior quality. The stock sound system has excellent clarity and the styling is a knockout.

I love my New SUV. I have driven it back and forth to Florida 3 times since purchasing 3 months ago (1000 miles round trip) It does well on interstate. Only Problem I have had, is I went from a small sports car to this and I am not used to feeling the wind move me on the street.

We just bought Equinox after having test driven almost all of SUVs in its class. Neither of us liked the Santa Fe, I liked the Liberty - she didnt, she liked the VUE - I didnt, I liked the Escape - she didnt. We both loved the Equinox the moment we test drove it. Great price, and you get a lot of room for the size. Highly recommend you give it a try!

  • Were Lovin It - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Weve only had it for 4 weeks, but it has been great. The price cant be beat in any comparable SUV. We looked as about 15 different cars and SUVs and this one was the one that caught our eye. Not just its looks, but how enjoyable it is to drive. Its power throws you back in your seat, the leather is soft, yet feels strong. My daughters enjoy the stereo. The steering is tight or loose when needed and I had to watch the tach to make sure the transmission used all 5 gears. With the drivers seat all the way back, I have plenty of leg room in the back and I am 64". However if you stomp on the gas, hang onto the wheel or the steering may get away from you.
