Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Nice to drive, hard on gas - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Wheel bearing went in the first month. Gas mileage is pretty bad even when driven gently (approx 22 MPG HWY) Nice to drive, very comfortable, poor visibility when backing up, needs adjustable delay wipers, -window controls are not lit (hard to find at night) -handbrake is awkward to reach -gearshift is clumsy to use -great stereo (with upgrade) -excellent in snow

I just got my Equinox and I couldnt be happier. This vehicle is SHARP. Kudos to the designers on this one. Mine is the AWD model with every available option. Everything inside is right where you would expect it (with the exception of the heated seat control). Its got a lot of pep and fun to drive. I dont know why edmunds says the radio controls are difficult. They couldnt be easier to use. It also has lots of cargo room and leg room for second seat passengers. The doors open up wide, to accommodate large items or handicapped passengers. For the money, its the best small utility vehicle available today!

Really great small suv. Attracts attention and carries a lot more than I thought it would. Mileage good too.

  • Will buy again - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Love the car, love the comfort, quiet ride, good power, love the sliding back seat, carries 5 very comfortably. best small SUV on the market. My mom liked it so much she traded he Honda CRV for a 2008 Equinox.

  • Goes in the snow! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

The vehicle provides a feelng of security. It handles well on the Interstate, accelerates to pass and holds the ground. Road noise is minimal. The back storage compartment could be wider to accomodate a wheelchair more easily. The center compartment lifts up for a great place to put a womans purse of medium size. The back hatch door is a little heavy to push up, but doable. The leg room in the rear passenger seat is adjustable and accommodates long-legged people better than any other vehicle Ive owned. The rear headrests cannot be removed. They are a little wide and block the rear view more than Id like. Just have to be very careful before backing up. Im happy with the Equinox.

I went from a European car that gave me nothing but problems to an American car that Im actually looking forward to driving. Gas mileage a little less than perfect but overall, great power, good handling and so much space and comfort.

  • Wheel cover warning!!! - 2016 Chevrolet Equinox

Keep an eye on your center cap with the Chevrolet emblem ours fell off with less than 15000 miles and I was told this is not under warranty so I guess I will have to purchase a whole wheel cover should have known.

  • Backfiring Problem - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

We purchased our Equinox in April 05. I fell in love with the look of this SUV. Reminded me of the Lexus SUV. We traded in our Dodge Ram for it. About 6 weeks after purchase, it started to make a loud backfiring, or popping noise as I would slow down or come to a stop. Also does it when I first start it. Taken it back to the dealership several times. They dont know what is wrong with it. Really emabarrasing when someone at the gas station is complimenting the look of my car & I start it up & it backfires. Very close to trading it in for another Dodge. Engine wants to stall sometimes too when I go to start it. I was very dissapointed in such a pretty car.

  • Good to Go - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Our LT is fun to drive. I have been getting 16.5 MPH in all around driving.

  • Poor Quality - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Traded Suburban for Equinox looking for better gas mileage and smaller size. Poor decision. This car is cheaply made. In windy conditions car blows all over the road. Akward interior, window controls should be on the doors. Horrible road noise in the interior cabin. Leather seats are hard, and backseat feels like a wooden bench. Gas mileage should be better considering the size. I traded it in for a new Yukon, couldnt have made a better choice getting rid of it.
