Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Very Disapointed - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

The gas mileage is very disapointing. At least 5 miles under what is advertised. Outside design is very sharp. Interior cloth for LT is very cheap. More attention needed to the plastic edges by windows. The dash rattles. The map lights blind the driver when used. Great room in the back seat and headroom. Moonroof is also very nice. Over all interior needs upgraded for LT version. The turning radius is horrible and the outside mirrors need to be heated in the LT version.

  • 3 Months & Loving It - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

I researched the heck out of this before I bought it and havent been disappointed, except maybe the sluggish acceleration (freeway ramps, etc.) Love the looks inside & out. Extremely comfortable seats, plenty of room inside. This is my first Chevy and first American car in maybe 10 years. I had to pay top dollar and fight off others trying to buy it out from under me, but no regrets. I have about 2,500 miles now and last week I got 35 mph on an all interstate trip...pretty impressive! If youre looking for a crossover, you should definitely give the Equinox a try!

  • 350Z - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

This car replaced our 350Z, which was our 2nd car. While its not as much fun to drive, its a lot more practical. Ive owned other SUVs over the years. This rides as well as our current Cadillac CTS. In fact, we have a lot more fun driving the Equinox. GM is starting to get it right. Hope its not too late.

  • I LOVE IT - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I HAVE DRIVEN HONDA ACCORDS FOR THE PAST 9 YEARS. I HAVE NEVER BEEN INTERESTED IN A CHEVROLET UNTIL I SAW THE EQUINOX. I AM SO HAPPY WITH MY PURCHASE, I HAVE NOT MET ONE PERSON THAT HAS NOT BEEN IMPRESSED WITH THE GREAT STYLE OF THE CAR. I DO AGREE WITH THE OTHERS ABOUT THE BLIND SPOTS, BUT I WILL GET USED TO IT. I DO RECOMMEND THIS VEHICLE (SUV) TO OTHERS.

  • Outstanding Automobile. - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

The Chevy Equinox offers such a smooth ride for a SUV. There was no comparison after mytest drive of the Equinox with other SUVs. Not only is the Equinox a stylish automobile it has great gas mileage and a great interior. I would highly recommend the Equinox if youre looking for a Midsize SUV.

  • I Love my Equinox! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I have driven a pick-up truck for 30 yrs. While working on the paperwork for my new 05 truck I saw the Equinox on the showroom floor. It looked good so I decided to check it out. I took it for a test drive and loved it. I bought it instead. I love it and havent got one complaint!

  • So-So - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Gas mileage is only 18-20 miles per gallon. The electric steering is terrible. Its like driving a bus when you go to turn. Turning radius much too wide. Fixed mast antenna is cheap plastic. Do not take the car thru an automatic car wash with the antenna on, regardless of what the owners manual says. Needs a larger engine. Rear headrests are too large and block your vision. They should be half the size they are. Window controls on console take some getting used to.

Its not a bad vehicle but it is not as good as the 2002 Trailblazer I traded for it. Figuring out the radio/CD controls is very difficult. The seats are comfortable. The ride is good but the gas mileage is poor. I got better gas mileage with the 2002 Trailblazer. This is a big disappointment!

  • Equinox not quite equal, but solid. - 2016 Chevrolet Equinox

If you value rear seat room for adults over cargo space, look at the Equinox. The seats are comfortable and the ride is smooth. Most everything is fine, but not spectacular. There are compact SUVs with more pep and fuel economy, but the Equinox is reliable.

  • Good Car. Bad MPG Killing my pocket! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I love my car, the car drives great, I bought it in 05 and I absolutely love it, however the gas is killing me. I have to spend about $50 on Friday to fill it up, then by Monday have about 1/4 tank left leaving me to fill it up on Tuesday again, so basically I am spending a good $200-250 a month on gas alone. Gas mileage needs big improvement, and noise reduction as well. Also a navigation system option should be available. Other than that the car runs and looks great. I am looking to change cars if I find one that gives me better MPG, I think I will be trading it in for a better one, well see.
