Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

I traded in my Blazer for the Equinox. Havent had any problems whatsoever. Its so much fun to drive, and it has great features for the price I paid. Im always getting stopped to ask how I like my Equinox., and I always say, its the best car Ive ever had.

  • 2011 Equinox has horrible mpg! - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox

Im in Michigan, drive 38 miles each way to work, 28 hwy. I had a Subaru Outback AWD and would get 24 in winter and 27 in summer. rural roads the other 10 miles. I bought this car with FWD to get better mileage, in Oct, 2010. The mpg is ridiculous! I was getting 24.4-.7 in fall, now that Ive lowered speed "Under" 70 mph I can get 25, oh boy! I am fighting with GM to return it. This mpg is false advertising. daughters Honda CRV w/AWD gets 27 hwy! Its not right to falsify the testing. They told me (GM employees) that the "Feds" okd the testing in "controlled"environment and 48 is " ave. hwy speed". Heater is also poor in under 20 deg. and Horrible blind spot passenger side!

I was pulled between this suv and the Nissan Murano and decided that for the price and the difference in fuel economy this was the smarter choice. I dont believe I have made a smarter choice in the last 3 years of ownership. When it is time for a new car I will most definitely look at the Equinox as my first choice again, and I must say if something is going to beat the Equinox it will have to be just the most awsome car of all time, and I dont see that happening.

I like the design and ride of my Equinox. Smooth and quite on the rode. 4 cyl seems a little sluggish sometimes but the fuel economy is good. So far averaging 23.8 mpg. There is plenty of room for my wife, dog and I to take trips. Interior design is nice and contemporary with no wood grain.:) Have had issues with wavy lines in windshield. Dealer replaced it with another wavy windshield. Also have seen this in other Equinoxes on the lot. It is extremely noticeable on sunny days. If you can see lines in your windshield too please put in a formal complaint with GM through your dealer to replace it and help me out. Also had paint chipping where the fascia meets the right front quarter panel.

My wife and I really enjoy the car. The sliding rear seat is great. It provides a lot of leg room. When you get on the gas it responds. The doors also open wide which is nice getting things in and out.

  • Poor gas mileage - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Only got 14 mpg in town and 17 mpg highway. GM said some cars have this problem, but no solution. Drove for 6000 miles, and traded for a Mercury Mariner. Very dissatisfied with Chevrolet, their excuses as to the bad mileage, etc. My recommendation is to stay away from a Chevy Equinox.

  • Everything I hoped for - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox

After many hours of research on different small SUVs, we chose the 2011 Equinox. Weve had the Nox a little over a month and its everything I hoped it would be. Mocha Steel/Brownstone Leather is a great combo. Build quality is better than I expected. Once I understood that this SUV is not a Corvette, I dont mind if its slow off the line. I dont mind the Gas filler is on the right side, same as my wifes BMW. I dont mind the door lock switch is on the dash, same as the BMW. Ive not taken it on a long highway drive yet but so far Ive gotten 27.9 in mixed driving.

  • What a Blast! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Got my Equinox a couple of weeks ago. Test drove 7 other SUVs and the dealership had only 1 of these in stock, fully loaded with leather seats, satellite radio onstar, ect. Had to have it!!!! Looks similar to a lexus, and the drive is smooth, more like a car then SUV. Really clean understated interior. Two Thumbs up!!!

  • GM Produces fine Lemons - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

This vehicle is a lemon. It has been in the shop four times for the gas gauge. It does not mark right and has left me stranded a few times, and the air light has come on and was in the shop for two weeks. And the check engine light has come on twice. The car is full of rattles. I should have looked around a little more and bought a Japanese car. GM should not be allowed to build cars anymore. All it does is make US look bad with the junk that they make.

  • It fits the need - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I have to admit, I traded in my Z28 for the Equinox so, I might be a little biased on the performance. Anyway, they compare as far as gas mileage is concerned. They both stink...other than that, the Equinox is a good vehicle.
