Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

Picked my Equinox up end of July and drove to upstate New York after hurricane Charlie. After driving 3000 miles at high speeds on the highway and much town driving I have averaged 22 mpg which is the same as my Pontiac Montana van that I had prior to the Equinox. I very much like the vehicle, both style and performance, my only cticism is that the seats could be plusher. I believe Chevy have done a great job with this vehicle but could add a couple of low cost features like the performance information that was available in the van eg average mpg, range etc.

There was much room for improvement from going from a beat down 1998 Chevy Lumina into my new Chevy Equinox 2006. My first impression of driving the Equinox was that it was rather quiet for a car its size. I was instantly attracted to the fact that the car handles smoothly and I didnt need to put too much gas into it to get it up a hill. The features my Equinox came with were very nice additions to the car itself. I originally went from a sedan style car to SUV and was interested in knowing how well it would work out for me. Well itÂ’s be about 2 months since I have owned my Equinox and I can say in confidence that I am pleased with my purchase. I would recommend this SUV to friends/family

Altho my mileage hasnt been as good as I would like - it is getting better as the engine gets broken in - I do love this car. I is particularly fun to drive, while having plenty of room and remaining comfortable.

I got my LT1 Equinox end of December.Could not be happier. I had a problem with slush (Buffalo NY weather) getting into the front door lower panels. I have since had the fitted mud guards installed and the problem is almost totally fixed. There is a cheap rubber guard on the door bottoms but they dont do enough and do seem shoddy. If that is the biggest problem I have I will be very happy. I love this SUV !!!!

  • Trasmission and electronics - 2009 Chevrolet Equinox

I purchased this 2009 chevy equniox for my used 3 years ago with 50,000 miles on it. When we purchased it finish was starting to come off on the controls, but not bad. Everything was good for the first year then the problems started. First was the drivers door lock would not work with the fob after 2 years. You had to use the Manuel key. Then the third year the service tration control light came on. Then the service engine light. Then the trasmission started slipping. The vehicle started going down quick. Yesterday I decided it was time to trade it in @ 81,00 miles and it was such a relief. Chevy is not what it used to be. A friend that is a chevy mechanic told us that the head gasket would need to be replaced soon because that is a very common problem. The resale value is also poor. Trade in was only $2,500 -$3,500. We still owed $8,000 on it so we ended up paying Msrp to get the suv paid off. Lesson learned. I bought a new hyundai sonata and bought my wife a new kia sorento. 100,000 mile warranty and best rated for reliability.

Unfortunately, I bought this vehicle on looks alone, my first mistake. The price was right, but I guess I got what I paid for. Although it has more pep than my 2004 GMC Envoy, it doesnt even compare with overall quality.

Chevy got it right -- a great looking vehicle that everyone notices and totally right-sized! Not too big, not too small.

I am a sports car or "Euro-sedan" kind of guy. But, sooner or later youve got to pick up a bag of peat moss. I cant think of a better car to do it in than the Equinox. Few SUVs are exciting cars to drive, and this one is no exception. The ride is biased towards luxury - the long wheelbase really helps. The engine moves it along with little fuss and the 5-speed automatic always seems to find the right gear, making it feel stronger than it really is. The available luxury features, (sunroof, XM radio, etc.) make my commute a pleasant one. No squeaks, no rattles, no problems.

  • A Truly Great Car! - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox

Having owned 2 Toyota Highlanders and a RAV 4 I was in the process on dealing for a 2009 Highlander lease back. I was ready to close the deal but my wife kept asking me to look at the Equinox. A friend of hers had one and my wife was really impressed. Well, I gave in and put the Highlander on hold and went to look at the Equinox. I honestly found it hard to believe that the Equinox was so great. I cancelled the Highlander and bought the Equinox. Every day I find that I am more satisfied with it. I honestly cannot complain about a thing. I am sure there are going to be some out there that are going question my decision but all I can say is that I am really glad I bought the Equinox.
