Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Not Pleased - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I have had problem after problem with this vehicle. I noticed on the Edmunds message board other owners have had similar problems. The dealer appears to be clueless when some of these issues are mentioned even though they appear to be consistan issues with others across the board. At the first opportunity, I plan to trade her in for possibly a whole new make. This has not been a pleasant experience with a new car purchase.

  • Best of all Crossover SUV - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

This vehicle is great compared to Escape, CRV, and RAV4 (style, comfort, and features. I traded my 97 Merc Mountaineer AWD (14 mpg). Never heard of Equinox until I started shopping around and researching to take advantage of the CARS program. I was very impressed the first time I test drove it. Stopping myself from purchasing the first one I test drove, I tried the 3 others mentioned above. I kept coming back to Equinox. Ideally, I wanted LT2 with 4 cyl but could only find LT2 with V6. I chose 4 cyl to take advantage of the mileage (to save almost $2K in fuel/year from my Moutaineer) so I had to settle with a sharp looking gray LT1 with black and silver interior.

  • Nice SUV, but..... - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I only bought foreign autos until now because I loved the looks of the Equinox and decided to give Chevrolet a chance. So far I am pleased with the Equinox, except the gas mileage is not so great (18 mpg) and it is hard to see out the right rear side of car when pulling out. There is blind spot, and the rear seat head rests block view to a point of being dangerous. This needs to be looked at by GM. The SUV is roomy and comfortable though, and easy to look at.

gm is on the upside with there latest models. With models like eqinox, malibu, silverado, colorado, and tahoe, things are going to get nasty in the ever growing car industry . And america needs to lead by example, or its going to get really ugtly in the next few years. Alot of american jobs are at stake lets not lose them to mexico or any other country

Overall great vehicle, excellent styling & interior appointments - at this price point. The LTZ 6 cylinder is very solid & a pleasure to drive. Very well equipped even at base model. GM has a hit a home run with this one. I would highly recommend this vehicle. The ride is quiet & firm; great visibility from elevated crossover seating

  • Love our Nox - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Watched this CUV from the Auto shows and editor reviews until I could finally order it on 4/10/09. Our white LTZ arrived on 7/3/09. Now nearly 8,000 miles later we couldnt be happier. I see yuppies in their much more expensive SUVs taking a second look, but little do they know that my Chevy is more feature rich then what they paid another $10,000 or more for. Have had no problems or service calls. Truly like the idea of having roadside assistance for 5 years, but figure I wont need it. The chrome appearance package is worth the extra $$$ for the look it provides. Getting 29mpg with 4cyl driving 77mph with the AC on. Test drive to see for yourself.

  • So far so good - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I just picked up my new 2010 Equinox from a local dealer who made this purchase a pleasant experience. I just traded in my YUKON XL so this is quite a change! So far I really enjoy it, it has great pick up, fun to drive and has plenty of interior room. Will have to write another review after I pass 3,000 miles.

  • My Equinox - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I love my Chevrolet Equinox. It is a very smooth ride with lots of options. There is lots of leg room inside, and lots of space for cargo if you need there it. It is so much fun to drive, and I am in heaven

  • a great buy and not to big nor to small - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I have had my suv since July 2004 and there have been a few problems whith rattling in the steering they had to change the sterring column and a few recalls but we as new buyers of a new model will be the test drivers I would buy a another one in a few years when they have improved our needs. It is a fun ride and great for mothers that dont want to drive a hge tank and not a a ugly mini van. Fuel economy does however stink.
