Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Why we bought the Equinox - 2007 Chevrolet Equinox

Compared drive with Rav4 and Ford Escape. Drives more easily than Rav4. Ford surprisingly heavy to steer. Fun to drive this heavy 5000lb machine. Initial mileage around town about 19mpg. Relatively new to me. Solid and stable, but ease of steering could possibly cause oversteering. Visibilty on right side requires use of the side mirror. Acceleration good for freeways. Does not sway like my 95 Blazer tended to do.

The longer I drive it the more I love it. The price was great, more options for my money than the Mazda CX-7. Have been getting 26 mpg. The ride is smooth and comfortable. My sixteen year old son (who is 61) loves the back seat that slides back. Everybody says it looks like a Lexus.

  • Worst car I’ve ever driven. - 2017 Chevrolet Equinox

Recalls on recalls on recalls, dealerships not doing anything and breaking more things every visit, blaming problems on the gas station (who did quality testing and found no issues), just an over unsafe car and no one to help fix it because it is literally garbage. Do not buy. You will hate your life every day until you can get out of your lease, which they will be sure to give you hell for.

  • Mothers Day Gift, follow up #1 - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Have lived with the Equinox for 1.5 months. Still love this vehicle and have found we are getting 22 mpg avg. Comfortable vehicle on the interstate. We checked out a Trailblazer and it was 5K to 7K higher in cost. Had to take vehicle in for front side oil leak which turned out to be a leak of the ac compressor. Freon also leaked out and was blowing warm air. Dealer replaced prompty under warranty and arranged a rental for the three days he had the vehicle. Compressor arrived from Detroit supplier. Everything seems in order.

  • Great everyday car - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox

Car has good looks, plenty of room both front and back, very low cost to operate and is very dependable. What more could one want.

  • Kickin Equinox - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I LOVE this vehicle. Its my first SUV and I chose it over the Trailblazer or Blazer because its more economical, has better gas mileage AND it has more head and leg room inside. It is unbelievable how much leg room you have in the back seats, easily enough to cross your legs and sit comfortably without touching the seat in front. Nice amount of rear trunk space for carrying cargo and seats go down easily to allow for even more cargo when not using the rear seats for passengers. I give it an A+ after shopping for several months and looking at many different SUVs. Its the most for my money AND has a peppy engine with lots of power.

  • Almost a world beater - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

This would be a great vehicle, if it wasnt for one huge problem. The gas mileage is total crap. My first tank I ran thru it at 65 mph on the freeway checked 20.5 mpg. The second tank was the same. If this doesnt change for the better soon, I will trade it off. I only have 600 miles on it right now, but it must make a major improvement. Otherwise I love it!

  • Best Small SUV since Aztek - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

We started this journey of searching for a new car last year. Dealer after dealer car after car. I even considered buying foreign for the first time in my life. However my wife loved her Aztek and wanted something that would compare to size comfort and cargo space with all the bells and whistles. We drove Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Buick, and then one last chance for GM we went to John Miles Chevrolet. They were so laid back they let the car sell itself. We saw the Equinox 2010 sitting in front of the showroom. We drove it and the rest is history.

  • No Complaints - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

Wife and I like it a lot. Nice styling, ride, handling, features, value. No beefs about the gas mileage.

  • First 4 cylinder - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I waited until the newness wore off to write a review. First the performance of the 2.4 is a pleasant surprise. After driving V8s for years, I was apprehensive. I just returned from a 3547 mi. trip to Az. and back to Wa. Highway speeds from 60 to 75 were maintained and at elevations from sea level to 7000 ft. Mileage for the trip was 26 mpg actual, about 1.2 mpg below indicated. I have no question that the 29 mpg could be achieved (or exceeded) at 65 mph max. and no mountain driving. I dont have that discipline. The Equinox is extremely quiet at highway speeds. On rubberized asphalt there is no road noise either. Seating is very comfortable (my bad back is appreciative). Good Ride!
