Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Very Impressed - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Just purchased a pre-owned 2006 Equinox with 12000 miles on odometer. Love the styling, cargo carrying capacity, seat flexibility and comfort, all of the bells and whistles, and quietness of the interior and comfortable ride

I looked at and test drove a handful of other small to midsize SUVs thinking i was finally going to get what i REALLY wanted and not be penny pinching this time around (within reason). Nissan, Acura, BMW, to name a few and couldnt help but come back to Chevy. The functionality and beautiful design far surpassed the others. Im almost 3 years in - coming to the end of the lease - and if it makes sense, will definitely consider keeping it. There a few minor things Im not crazy about: an optional piece had to be added between the back seat and cargo area to keep things from slipping between the large space between. There is molding that is coming loose on the front passenger side underneath the door jamb. Sometimes when using blue tooth to play music, it gets stuck saying the song has been paused and i have to close the music on i-tunes and restart it for some unknown reason. Other than that, i couldnt be happier - no major issues and shes nice to look at too!

the adjustable rear seat allows for a lot of rear leg room. the folding from passenger seat allows for haulig of 8- 10 foot pieces of lumber. the ride is very car like.

  • Do not Buy - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I purchased my chevy equinox and was very excited. Untill it wouldnt start and they had to replace the battery. I have now had it for a year and a half and the car has not started over 8 times, meaning completly dead and have never had an accident. My car is currently being lemon lawed and would not ever consider buying a chevy again.

I love my Equinox. I get so many compliments on my truck. Its not a huge SUV. It seems to be just the right size. With the rear folding AND sliding seats, picking up a large item is not a problem. And with the front folding passenger seat, long pieces of lumber or the like, is a piece of cake! Avaible On-Star & XM Radio is awesome. I use my personal calling feature all the time.

  • Roomy, but Cheap! - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I have had owned this car for 13 months. It has been in the shop 2 times and I am about to bring it back in. About 2 months after we purchased this vehicle the surpentine belt came off for no apparent reason. It was not broken or stretched out and we had to have the car towed to the dealership. About 3 months ago it started rattling really loud. I took it back to the dealer. They kept it for 2 days and told me that a screw had come loose in the motor. It also rattles real loud in the back of the car, but since it is not constant I cant bring it to the dealer. I have no way of knowing when it will do it. Also, now my ignition switch is going out. My car only has $25K miles on it. The whole car is plastic.

  • Great Vehicle - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I looked at a lot of small to mid-size SUVs, and kept coming back to the Equinox. The ride is smooth compared to other SUVs, and I feel like I am in a sedan. Car handles great. There are a few things that Im not too pleased with, including the backseat headrests that are too tall, but I love driving this car and, for the price, the purchase was definitely worth it.

  • Equinox - So Far So Good - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

My wife and I have enjoyed the Equinox very much. Great room for the kids in the back, and all the stuff we carry around. For the price, we find the Equinox a very good vehicle. Only problem we have had is a "clunk clunk clunk" from the back occasionally after startup.

  • GM shouldnt sacrifice quality for price - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Wished I test drove it a lot longer. Well the exterior is nice. Interior is a big issue. Front is very cramped. Dash illumination is poor. Power lock/window and other buttons dont light. Cant use emergency brake when cup holder extended. Bottom cup holder is too low to keep your coffee in. Temp knob very hard to turn. Going over bumps are ok but other times feel like the wheels are falling off. Starting the engine cold idles at 1300 rpm for about 4 minutes. Rear hatch no longer goes up on its own. Blind spots are scary when backing up. Small fuel tank for an SUV.
