Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Just purchased and in love - 2007 Chevrolet Equinox

This is just a beautiful SUV. We just purchased and are still in honeymoon phase. It drives smoothly, compared to our full size trucks and seems to have all the bells and whistles that we hoped for. This is beautiful - everyone at work is jealous. Go ahead and do it, upgrade and get the leather interior. Its totally worth it.

Fun to drive. We drove over 300 miles home for Christmas and had two dogs, all of our luggage, and about 20 presents and everything fit with room to spare. It has the smoothest ride and easiest handling of anything Ive driven

When I was checking out the reviews on this site on the Equinox I was gung- ho. Then I read the discussion boards AFTER I bought it. Thought I made the biggest mistake. So far, I enjoy this vehicle. Quiet, spacious, fairly peppy. I have always driven a 5-speed manual (4 cylinder) so this is taking some getting used to!

I love how my Equinox drives, but this car has been in the shop more than it has been on the road. Ive had the brakes worked on 3 times, master cylinder replaced, the whole gearshift assembly replaced, the radio replaced, and the rotors turned twice. It also has a backfiring problem that has been in effect since 9000 miles, but no service person can duplicate the problem when they have it in the shop. I dont think I will ever purchase another Chevorlet. I just wonder if any other Equinox owners have had the problems that Ive had.

  • Let me sum it up - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Ive had my 05 LT for 6 months/8K miles. Yes, the gas mileage could use improvement. Yes, the fabric material on the seats is horrible, they stain so easily. And, yes, the turning radius stinks (steering is very loose. However, its seems to be hit or miss for a lot of Equinox owners when it comes to reliability and vehicle problems. So far, Ive had 0 problems mechanically, it runs smooth and is fun to drive. The back seat comfort seems to be an issue for some, but I have 2 child seats back there, so I cant comment on adult comfort. The stereo, controls, features..all good. I am suspect of the overall build quality, but for under $20K, what do you expect?

  • meets my needs - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

I was looking for a car that would make my highway driving comfortable with good gas mileage, as well as make my short commute enjoyable. It has exceeded my expectations. Furthermore, everyone who has seen this car has had nothing but good things to say about its styling and comfort. Would I buy another one...in a heartbeat!

  • Great looking & youthful - 2007 Chevrolet Equinox

This is the first time I have driven a vehicle so agile and fun to drive. It looks great in black and catches attention wherever I go. Visability is good too, since stand is a bit higher than others. Very adjustable seats make it extremely comfortable on trips. The youthful look first caught my attention, but driving it sold me. The value for what you get is worth it. I would recommend it to baby boomers who do not want to drive around in some old mans Buick or Caddy. My vehicle has the LT package with Pioneer sound system. This adds enough high end quality that is only available on expensive SUV,s. Handling is very predictable and my wife raves about how it is her very favorite.

  • PLENTY OF GAZES - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

HAVE MY NOX FOR 5 WEEKS AND ENJOYING IT. A LITTLE INDIFFERENT WITH GAS MILEAGE BUT TIME WILL TELL. GREAT JOB CHEVY. HANDLES WELL BUT STEERING TAKES SOME GETTING USED TO. ITS A GREAT FEELING TO HAVE BEEMER AND LEXUS DRIVERS GIVING MY NOX THE ENVY LOOK WHEN I DRIVE PAST THEM. ALL IN ALL A GREAT PKG. HAVE 1500 MILES AND SO FAR SO GOOD.

  • Wife loves it but... - 2007 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Love the style features and performance. However Chevy could have done a few things better. No individual reading lights, all lights must be on to read in the back. No mirror lights or lighted sunvisor mirrors. Power seat switch poorly located between seat and door. Only have 2000 miles on it but find fuel economy somewhat low, possibly not broken in yet. When in the front passenger seat the roof pillar doesnt allow me to lean to the right or rest my arm on the door.
