Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Nervous about my engine - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

I bought this vehicle for my wife. It fits the bill for decent fuel mileage, comfort, style, and cargo capacity. Im disappointed in the fact that the engine has already been in the shop for a "top end cleaning". It began to spark knock at about 3,000 miles with the A/C on and at 4,000 miles, GM instructed dealer to clean the top end and tell me to use only top tier fuels. The cleaning of the top end seems to have fixed the knock, but I find it hard to believe average gasoline would leave enough deposits behind in so few miles to warrant a top end cleaning. I feel this saga is just beginning. Will followup on this issue as time goes on.

The Chevy Equinox has been a dream come true for our family. The interior roominess of this compact SUV was the major selling point for us. We love the ride of this vehicle too.

  • 2.5 years old and feels like new. - 2014 Chevrolet Equinox

I bought this SUV for a family car as an upgrade to the old Montana SV6AWD. It has the 3.6 V6 LT2 leather heated seats and sunroof. It has a tight nimble handling with plenty of power for acceleration but gas thirsty in city traffic. The trip computer does give instantaneous mileage and average over 50 mile distance. Only driven 500 miles but everything works well except the transmission shifts feel vague and sluggish at low throttle speeds but crisp under acceleration. I wanted the extra power for a full load of adults with luggage and deep snow for AWD in the mountains. The rear seat is only suitable for 2 adults and 3 in a pinch. It came with the a CPO extended warranty but will need an extended service contract to 6 years / 100K miles for anticipated repairs to a typical GM product. It has all the features of a higher priced SUV and I like to buy USA products(even though built in Canada) and have a local Chevy dealer for service or local mechanics. I hope it gives long term reliability and comfort for the wife and kids and those occasional family road trips.

  • Safe like an SUV, drives like a car! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

From the moment I saw this vehicle on the lot and test drove it, I knew it was the car for me. Little things, like an adjustible back seat and easy- to-reach controls, made the Equinox an easy choice. It feels like Im driving a car when Im on the road, yet I feel safe in the SUV.

  • Love the car..Happy with my purchase - 2018 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I bought the 2018 Equinox without test driving it from a dealership 2 hours away. Probably not the smartest move. Car was delivered around 9:00PM. Didn’t test drive that night, next day I drove it and noticed a noise. Noise would get louder the longer I drove. Took it to local Chevy dealership where they discovered a bolt/nut rubbing against another metal object. They think it has to do with the 2018 being a new frame and they are using 2017 bolts/nuts. Dealership is suppose contact GM to figure out solution. Car drives great besides the noise. Love everything about the car. Radio and speakers are great. My teenage kids love the stero too. Went on a long road trip last week and thought the seats were a little hard. My daughter starts driving in a few months and I’m excited about all the safety features it has and the teen features. Filling the gas tank is easy with no cap to turn. Technology is user friendly. Love the look of the Equinox. Using foot to open trunk is nice. Plenty of storage in back, plus added storage under the trunk liner. Very roomy. A few of my mild complaints would be: seats not that comfortable for long rides, might be user error....but the preset driver settings and the sunroof don’t appear to be one touch. I have to hold the button down the entire time. My daughter has a tough time putting the second row seat back up if it was down; as it’s heavy. Storage on driver door is small. I have a handicap parking permit and it doesn’t fit there. A little on the expensive side once I got all the bells and whistles.

  • Great Chevrolet SUV - 2007 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Well I purchased this vehicle for my Mother for a Mothers Day gift. My Mother wanted this vehicle since 2005. However the 2007 model was the best to buy yet. The StabiliTrak™ is standard on the 2007 model which is great for handling the vehicle on highway ramps and other tight turns. My Mother has said that it drives very smoothly and has great handling with the StabiliTrak™ feature. However my Mother has complained about the wide turns and the location of the hand brake. Otherwise its a great investment.

  • Great American Made - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

We shopped all the competition. Honda, Toyota, Kia, Nissan, Hyundai and others. We were most impressed by the Chevy. Price, features and after 6 months Quality! We have never had one problem. The vehicile is comfortable and has many options the imports missed and the ride is better! The fuel economy improved after 3,000 miles and the vehicile is superb on fit an finish. We have owned everything from all US made to Japan and European Imports and this car rocks! Easy entry & exit, flat floor, performance and quality have us thinking the US car makers are passing the imports and no premium price & we dont deal attitude of the imports.

  • Very good vehicle for the money - 2007 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I am a first time SUV owner. I test drove the Toyota Rav4, Ford Escape and Honda CVR. This was the most car for the money. Lots of safety features and the drivers information center is very useful. Have had lots of compliments on the style of this vehicle. I would recommend it without hesitation.

  • Horrible - 2007 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I bought my Equinox just two months ago. I have a horrible experience with it so far. Just after two months (3000km) loud noise appeared in drive side front wheel bearing. Its high pitched humming noise, very loud and unbearable after just cuple minutes of driving. Even more frustrating was dealing with GM warranty service. They didt have bearing assembly to replace, it had to be ordered and Im still awaiting for it (3 weeks passed already). GM doesnt provide replacement car and I have to drive Equinox with faulty bearing. It is become a torture - noise getting more and more unbearable. I had to cancel my travel plans, limit my driving to minimum. Fuel consumption is very high - horrible
