Antilock brakes are standard on all models for 2006. Heated cloth seats are now available on the LT, the LS features body-color fascias and the LT gets body-color rearview mirrors.

Pros:
  • Long wheelbase affords plenty of interior room, fore/aft-adjustable rear seats, high crash test scores, available side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Limited choice in drivetrains, confusing stereo control layout, slow steering response.

  • Had it for 5 year only put on 17,000 - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Poor Quality, performance poor. Had to put a quart of oil every 500 miles. No it wasnt leaking. Been to three different mechanics all say need to break into engine, could cost upwards of four grand. Decide to put oil in when needed. Maybe it just a lemon. But will not buy Chevy brand small suv.

  • No major issues - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I owned one of these from brand new till just about 80K miles. Over that span the car was very reliable and no major issues to speak of. Its got enough space to be practical and the engine has enough power to get out of its own way. The beams make for horrible blind spots. The stock suspension is junk and should be upgraded. The brakes warp easily. Fuel economy isnt awesome, but is consistent and predictable.

I bought this SUV 2 years ago with 60K on it. It now has 102K on it. So far I have had to replace engine, $2000. The blower Door $1254. The Tires $600. The brakes $100. The Battery $100. The rear hydrolic shocks $65.00. I do not recomend this auto. Do an internet look up of "Equinox blows cold air" and see all the people who are having their door go out and costing them over $1000 to fix. Run from this vehicle do not walk away.

  • No help from GM - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

4.5 years since bought we bought our 2006 Equinox new and 47k, transmission failed on us. Torque converter failed according to the transmission repair facility. $2700 to overhaul/repair. Car is now back and running ok but request to GM for full or partial reimbursement was denied. Looks like the General has seen our last automotive purchase.

  • Nice, but a lot of problems.... - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

My car now has 76k miles on it. All of these problems started before 60k miles. Heater regulator door went out-30k miles, rear shocks-36k miles, front shocks-40k miles, starting issues since the day I bought it brand new, on fourth set of rotors and 2nd set of calipers. I have never had these kinds of brake/rotor problems with any other car I have had(Honda) and currently have(Hyundai). I change the oil every 3-5k miles and have put new tires on at 45k miles and a new battery last night.

  • Too many problems - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I bought the car off of someone who still had all receipts from maintinence and was told that there were little to no problems. However, Im discovering that this car isnt that great. First off- the center console. If stuff falls between the seats, have fun getting it back. Next, location of cupholders isnt great. The power jack (cigarette lighter) is in an awkward place, too. Sometimes when I start it, I have to tap the gas. Also, had brakes replaced/worked on probably 5 times, starting off with a tapping noise when stopping and a HORRIFFIC grinding noise when stopping in reverse. Ive only seen one other review about that.

  • Never again - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I bought my Equinox brand new in 2006. Before hitting 20,000 the ignition switch went out and had an electrical problem. It still goes dead right after I crank it, but they say nothing is wrong with it. I have had 4 sets of brake pads in 6 weeks, other mechanical problems and it is in the shop right now as I type this for the 2nd time in 3 weeks for an "electrical" problem in the air conditioner. I like the cars look, but not all the problems it has come with. I would not recommend this car to anyone. It is the biggest piece of crap I have ever had. I am just waiting til the day I can trade it and not lose too much money.

  • Not What I Expected - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I bought my Equinox brand new expecting to drive off without having any issues. Within my first year I began having starter problems & the dealership looked it over and says its suppose to make the grinding sound, when I turn the key, its a safety feature..yeah right! After 4 years now, I find myself having to turn the key twice to get the engine started. After the 3rd year, I started dealing with a/c problems and once again after being in the shop twice, Chevy cant seem to fix the problem. I called GM and all they can do is file a report and have me bring it back into the shop to pay Chevy more money to try and fix the a/c problem a third time. I will be trading this bad purchase in soon!

  • Wouldnt recommend a GM to my enemy - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

At 30,000 miles the injectors had major issues. Dealership AND GM headquarters would do nothing about it. At 48,000 miles, the timing belt cover is leaking and now the engine is making really bad noises. GM headquarters told us it would be covered, then went back on that and said were out of luck, and coupled with the fact the dealership was rude about both situations, Ill never buy a GM product again.

  • Not the quailty I would have hoped for - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

My car ran great for the first year or so. Now so far Ive had three blown head gaskets. Two new heater cores, and one new water pump. And now. It doesnt want to start.
