  • Its The Best "C" car out there - 2014 Chevrolet Cruze

Totally average, it looks like a Honda or a Toyota but for half the cost. Drives very well, cornering with stock tires is excellent, and getting in and out of the vehicle is a snap. The problem is in the false fuel economy reports for this car. The average is nowhere near 30 miles per gallon, its about 24. In the city, the computer constantly showed about 16.5 miles per gallon. For a four cylinder???? How is this possible! I didnt get on it very much, just your average driver, and I could not get above 17 miles per gallon. The EPA fuel economy estimates are WAY off. On the freeway, its advertised as getting 36 MPG or better, but in REALITY (theres that word again), I was getting about 28 miles per gallon. For a four cylinder car, this is supposed to be an economy car, it is totally inexcusable. What I really disliked about my Cruze was the rapid devaluation; the value was going down by the week much faster than my payments, so that if I would have kept it, I would have paid $32,000 for a car that would be worth only $3,500 at the end of the payments. Totally unacceptable. I had to get rid of it. And being as this is a first car for many new, young car buyers, the insurance costs were much higher than normal--right up there with the Camaro and Ford Mustang. Ownership costs for this average car are ridiculous. But it was fun to drive and had a very quiet ride with a great stereo system.

  • Great Car for Price - 2014 Chevrolet Cruze

I am already at 50k+ miles in 2.5 years and have had no issues with this car. It is a basic car - no frills. It drives smoothly and is both practical and aesthetically pleasing. My only complaint is that the interior materials are cheap. One mirror cover broke off already with basic use and the metallic coating on a door handle is peeling off already. The door locks are kind of weird (the only autolock button is on the dash) and the basic model lacks many modern features such as keyless entry/start-up or a back-up view camera. The USB connection can be finicky, and I had to have it replaced when it was new, but now it usually works as long as the USB cord is good quality. The backseats are a little cramped when people sit behind someone tallish (I am 57). I average around 35mpg, which is awesome. Sometimes I go 40m on 1 gallon. I only paid $15k for this car, so I am very pleased with it overall.

  • What moron forgot the spare tire? - 2014 Chevrolet Cruze

No spare, no jack, a can of fix-a-leak "good luck" once you fill the tire with that fix-a-flat the tire and rim become one. Sure you need room for the "DEF" tank but there sure is enough room for a donut and tool kit. Another thing , try to find the correct wheel. The diesel wheel is different from the regular gasoline cruze due to the larger calipers. Other then that the Chevrolet Cruze is a damn good car...

Purchase 2014 Cruz Diesel in 2014. Five months after purchase the check engine light came on, I thought this was odd. Well, I have had my car service 10 times. Spoke with GM about the problem but have not received support. Please reconsider before you buy.Maybe all the Chevy Cruz Diesels are not alike but I ended up with a bad one. I have had a Chevrolet car before with no issues.

  • 2014 Cruze diesel Best mpg in my life! Fantastic! - 2014 Chevrolet Cruze

We have owned this car since Oct. 2014. It has done a mix of driving with some long road trips. getting 60 mpg with the low rolling resistance tires in the summer was a fantastic plus. But we have also seen 44 mpg mixed city driving. It goes down when we change to winter tires for driving conditions in Minnesota but is still 3 to 8 mpg above the EPA "estimates". The only way to get the mileage under 25 is letting it idle in the winter with the heat on while waiting for someone in a store! Getting into the car is a little difficult for a 62" tall man, it reminds me of my exotic sports car I used to own, but once in the car it is great! The handling is something other small car owners dream about for the engine gives the car just the right amount of weight. Acceleration is great for an economy car plus braking is great. the steering is a little twitchy at freeway speed but the driver is supposed to be paying attention at higher speed! I like the parking assist and backup camera. I have loaded all kinds of stuff in to the car through the backseat, even 8 foot 2 x 4s and 10 foot pipe. back seat room behind me is just not there. But it is ok when my wife is driving. I found when I was shopping cars in 2014 that this was the most comfortable inside for a large man. We have the leather interior and all the options but the price of the car new was not at all high. About $8k under the infamous car company that lied about their diesels. Chevy is up front about what the owner should do for maintenance and we like the 2 years free oil changes. I was waiting for a car that would get over 30 mpg in mixed city driving and our average of 38 is great. I knew I wanted either electric or diesel and diesel won in every way. Update 11-14-2016. This year this car hit a new milestone(pun intended) with its mileage at 61.3 MPG on a short trip of 150 miles. I had filled up before leaving and had to wait most of the trip to see the fuel gauge move off the full mark. OUTSTANDING!! Around town mileage for short trips has gone to about the EPA level of 26 mpg but the part of the system that measures fuel economy between fill ups is constantly showing 31 to 33 mpg average. A full tank of almost 15 gallons lasts a LONG time. We have yet to drive over 500 miles round trip with the car but highway mileage in the high 50s to low 60s is normal. If you balance this diesel with gas car maintenance and fuel costs compared to Premium gas required in lots of turbo engined small cars our costs are at least 25% lower but we are experiencing about 50% lower. I expect that when the 2017 1.6L diesel comes out I would think drivers could get into the 70s and if you tried really hard even to 80 MPG. GM is doing the right thing with their diesels.

Real problems with emission controls and related DEF issues. Less than 38500 miles and have had 10 service events relating to these issues. Last three were out of warranty and cost me around $1500. Oil changes and DEF top offs run between $90 -100.

  • Best car EVER! - 2014 Chevrolet Cruze

I purchased my 2014 Cruise Diesel through a Chevy dealer that had acquired it from GM as a Manufacturer vehicle. The previous owner claimed it had transmission problems & GM replaced it, tested it and gave me a 12 month, 12k mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. The car had 87k miles when I bought it and Ive now driven 11k delightful miles. My driving is mostly rural highways at 55 mph and I average 42-46 mpg! My overall average for 11k miles is an impressive 43.5. My best 50 mile average is 51.7! Amazing! I check the actual mileage at every fill-up and the cars computer is very accurate. Having driven an SUV for the past 3 years I can give some pros and cons. First, the ride quality and comfort is what I expected of a compact car- a bit more road feel, but above what I expected in the handling department. After several hours of driving the seats are a bit unforgiving, but overall comfortable. The noticeable lag on throttle response, due to turbo spin-up, is acceptable once you know to anticipate that. The extra 20 lbs of torque boost when the turbo does spins up is quite impressive! I did not expect the acceleration to make me grin like I still do! The ONLY negative is the outside temperature reads about 24 degrees low on the display. Under warranty. I had my local dealership look into it and I made 3 different trips as they replaced every component from the sensor to the gauge cluster - to no avail.
