Overview & Reviews
A year after its debut, the Chevy Cobalt features an expanded lineup for 2006. Most significant is the addition of a new 171-horsepower SS trim level, which is available on the Cobalt coupe and sedan. Because this would cause confusion with last year's 205-hp supercharged SS coupe, that trim level is now called SS Supercharged. The remaining trim levels are also renamed: the Base trim is now the LS, the former LS is now the LT, and the previous LT sedan is now the LTZ.
- Strong acceleration with any drivetrain, smooth and quiet ride, solid brakes, good crash test scores.
- Cheap interior plastics, cramped backseat, dire lack of interior storage, dull handling, mediocre fit and finish.

My Vette - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By Thought - March 20 - 2:10 pmThis car is a blast to drive! Its quiet in the cabin, huge trunk space, all seats are comfortable. Driven in all 4 seasons (heavy snowstorms too!) with no problems. Its simply the best car for the price for me. Ive installed Stage 2 and now the car is the king of the road and still better gas mileage than advertised for the 2.2! I love it, please dont buy one so that Im the only one with one!

Great Car - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By jkm777 - January 2 - 4:46 pmJust bought my Cobalt LS on Aug. 30th and so far Im really inpressed with this cars build quality. Ive owed 3 Hondas in the past and this Chevy really says something about GMs desire to compete with the foreign cars. Great styling, good gas mileage, great acceleration. Fit and finish is second to none. Very quiet & smooth ride.

One last chance - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By Mercury - December 6 - 4:33 pmOne last chance for GM, mainly because of GM card credits. Initial impression is favorable. The Cobalt LS is quiet, responsive, basic. I like the higher seating position and the information display on the dash (outside temp-mileage-economy-coolant temp-trip odometers). Seats are firm, comfortable for a short ride. Fuel economy is good. Dependability is the question mark. So far-so good.

Cobalt - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By al - November 25 - 5:03 amHave had the Cobalt for 4 months now, and I am very happy with it. At first there were a few kinks to work out. The engine light kept coming on, but there was nothing wrong with the car. This car is very quiet, and rides great for a compact. You can also feel the quality that went into this car. I think GM has a winner.

2006 SS Supercharged - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By An0malous - July 11 - 5:26 pmAn amazingly fun vehicle to drive. Put a cold air intake on this car, and it will howl and whine to the tune of your right foot. Handling and braking are superior, thanks to some very nice suspension, and a sticky set of pirelli Pzero tires. The potential of the peppy 2.0L engine is enhanced by aftermarket support by GM, covered under warranty, allowing you to comfortably reach 241hp. If you can control yourself to keep your foot out of it, it will reward you with a surprising 36-40mpg at highway speeds. Overall Im extremely happy with my 06 SS/supercharged Cobalt.

Fun ecomomy - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By Shawn - July 1 - 10:56 amAt the time I bought this car, I had an 87 mile one way comute to work. I was averaging 34-35 MPG. I have since relocated, and on my drive to my new location, I had averaged 41 MPG at one point of the drive I have recently noticed a dip in my fuel economy, but also received a recall notice for fuel injectors...hopefully getting them replaced will restore my original MPG. This car is fun to drive, has a great sporty look, and is pretty comfortable for 2 adults...rear seating is a little cramped. There is a lot of trunk space, but limited interior storage...an overhead compartment might be an option.

Look at better options - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By JoHo - April 13 - 4:00 pmIf youre looking for a mechanically dependable car, youve found it. But the interior quality is what could be found in a $9000 car. Its made from cheap plastic and the paint that covers it likes to chip easily. As said in earlier reviews, the housing for the sun roof likes to fall out, a lot. It honestly wont stay put. I love the feel of the car when i drive it, but the horrible quality of the interior makes me wish i could drive it without being in it.
