This Year's Model Updates:

A year after its debut, the Chevy Cobalt features an expanded lineup for 2006. Most significant is the addition of a new 171-horsepower SS trim level, which is available on the Cobalt coupe and sedan. Because this would cause confusion with last year's 205-hp supercharged SS coupe, that trim level is now called SS Supercharged. The remaining trim levels are also renamed: the Base trim is now the LS, the former LS is now the LT, and the previous LT sedan is now the LTZ.

Pros:
  • Strong acceleration with any drivetrain, smooth and quiet ride, solid brakes, good crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior plastics, cramped backseat, dire lack of interior storage, dull handling, mediocre fit and finish.

  • Surprising Quality and Fun! - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Ive never owned a GM car before and I bought this car because the price was right after my GM card earnings. After 2 weeks, I am impressed with interior design and how quiet the car is. Manual shifting and acceleration are quick and smooth. Gas mileage is good, 30+ in mixed driving, but GM needs to offer higher mileage vehicles to compete with Japanese manufacturers. Overall, a very good car at a competetitive price. I would like more options to be made available, not necessarily packaged.

A nice, somewhat sporty coupe at a very nice price. Fun to drive, manual shifts easily, good fuel economy (I ave. over 30 mpg.) Controls are easily accessable, CD standard, etc. A very nice value; good car for the money.

Perfect car for Arizona driving. Good at 85mph. Quiet, good defensive car on city freeways. Brakes, handling, and power A/C very good in stopped traffic at 115F. Good engineering. Read up and do your research. If Toyota made the worst car in the world, people would stand up to buy them. Cobalt SS is underated by far. The 2.4 ecotec is state of technology excellence

The handing is smooth and it has that big car ride quality. The engine is torquey, pulls hard and attatched to a smooth shifting 5 speed making it a blast to drive. The interior and exterior fit and fininsh are comparable to Toyota and Honda. Its got a great stereo and extremely spacious trunk. The gas mileage is awesome. Theres nothing not to like about Chevys Cobalt sedan.

This is the least expensive new car I ever owned, It is fun to drive. Its got a great 2nd. 3rd gear winds out great. Got lots of coments. Going to put chrome wheels on it, and she will look great. Just a base car, but got all the right equipment. Chevy is on the right road with the Cobolt. I think its got it all. A fast little SS and a great base

  • Great Car, Great People, Real Fun! - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

I have owned my Cobalt for a little while now. This is a great car for the price. Its a blast to drive. I look forward going to work and leaving work because of this car. The people that complain about the interior and style should have not spent the money on it and saved till they can afford a million dollar car. The interior is very clean and nice to keep that way. Performance-wise, like I said, fun!. They did a great job and I drive defensively at times and still average 28 mpg, but mostly 35 mpg. All I can say is that Chevy did a great job!

  • From Monte Carlo SS to Cobalt SS/SC - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
    By -

First new car, used to drive a 1986 Chevy Monte Carlo SS. Much nicer car, better handling, no problems, great fuel economy, and much more comfortable. Only thing Ive had to do so far is change the oil. Im at 23,000 miles so far and its been great. Interior is a little cheap looking, due to the plastic used everywhere, but the seats are fantastic (G85 Recarro package) but for a $20k car its great.

  • Update to 1/14/06 Review - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

After 29500+ miles, this car has been excellent. PROS: Performance, passing in 3rd gear. The seats have worn nicely, I still get 30mpg on the hwy and avg 24 on my mixed daily commute. When youre really racing it though, expect 8-14mpg. Maintenance is ok, $95 for Schedule I, $130 for Schedule II at the Chevy dealer. CONS: Stock tires wore out at 18k and theres only 5 or 6 tires you can replace them with. Glove box plastic-rub rattle is annoying, same with squeak in int. LR quarter panel. MI/OH roads beat up you (and the car) with the stiff suspension.
