This Year's Model Updates:

A year after its debut, the Chevy Cobalt features an expanded lineup for 2006. Most significant is the addition of a new 171-horsepower SS trim level, which is available on the Cobalt coupe and sedan. Because this would cause confusion with last year's 205-hp supercharged SS coupe, that trim level is now called SS Supercharged. The remaining trim levels are also renamed: the Base trim is now the LS, the former LS is now the LT, and the previous LT sedan is now the LTZ.

Pros:
  • Strong acceleration with any drivetrain, smooth and quiet ride, solid brakes, good crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior plastics, cramped backseat, dire lack of interior storage, dull handling, mediocre fit and finish.

  • Cobalt coupe LS 5speed 2006 is just OK - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

This is a good handling car, with a great ride and somewhat quiet, good looks and good value, huge trunk but small opening. I am everaging 32 MPG and very happy with that. No arm rest on 5spd tranny models, cup holders are too shallow drink tends to tip over in turns, interior is very attractive but extremely cheaply made, the door fabric is pulling away from under the door closing pull cup, American cars depreciate faster than Japaneese cars by a large margin. I am "buried". If you want one buy a used one, its a decent car

So far I love driving my new Cobalt. For a compact car, it packs in a ton of features without adding to the price tag. Chevy has done a great job with this vehicle making it fun to drive and very practical (60/40 rear seats with lots of trunk room, well placed interior features) with great fuel economy, even for city driving. This is the first car Ive bought and I couldnt be happier.

  • Poor Quality Car - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Unlike most of the forgien manufacture, GM firmly believes you get what you pay for and that phlosophy is refected in this vehicle. Its just simply of poor quality and GM has a long line of excuses to explain its poor quality away. Excuses they are justifiable, they are not. After owning 12 General Motor vehicles, I have come to the conclusion that any GM vehicle outside of their trucks and SUV are just disposable. It truthfully saddens me to see a car manufacturer I once loved produce such garbage and then justify its short comings through excuses that they expect the dealerships to pass along.

We owned a z24 Cavalier before we purchased this car and I like this car even more than my Cavalier. It is a excellent purchase. I love my Cobalt. Lots of room because we have two children and they dont complain about it like they did the Cavalier.

I bought my new Cobalt this summer and was impressed with the comfort while driving and its easy handling. It has a very smooth ride and great acceleration. Also the trunk space is huge. It is a great car!

  • I love My SS. - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

I started out looking at the Mazda 3 and I am very happy that I ended up with a Cobalt SS. I test drove just about every comparable car in this class and the Cobalt felt just as good as the Honda Civic and Nissan Altima. I will admit that I really liked the way that the Mazda 3 drove; however, The Cobalt SS is a great driver- on the highway as well as around town. I have always been cautious of American cars and I am glad to say that GM is finally building quality small cars. I am getting between 28-30 mpg with about half of my driving on the highway. The car feels solid, no rattles.

I Love my Cobalt. I had a Cavalier and it was okay. The Cobalt is great. I have never wrote a review and had to do it as I love this car. Good AC, in Fl a must. The seats are a big improvement over the Cav. Everything is better. Chevy is building better cars. The handling is much better. Just seems solid. Knock on wood.

Its my first brand new car being a recent college graduate. Overall my Cobalt has been pretty good. No problems since I have purchased it. Standard horspeower is better then most others in its class for the price. Interior noise is low and it handles well on bumpy surfaces. I think all American automakers have made great strides in improving the quality of their cars and if your in the market for a new car check one of them out and support our economy.

  • Absolute garbage - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

The car was great for a week.Looks great, quick, handles well. Then it shut off going down the highway. All by itself. A crank shaft sensor blew with 300 miles on it. A month later, the steering system failed. Needed an entire steering system. (electric motor, steering column, and steering shaft) Then, with 7000 miles on it, it needed new control arms and ball joints. The cruise control also broke at 7000 miles. This is the worst new vehicle Ive ever owned, and I do not advise purchasing one. GM does not stand behind their products. Very disappointed. The Cobalt SS/SC is complete trash, or at least mine was. Needed over $6000 worth of repairs within 6 months.

I love to drive this car. For a 4 banger it has a lot of get up and go. The car has a nice layout and handles great.
