This Year's Model Updates:

The Cobalt is a replacement for the aged Cavalier and like its predecessor it's available in both coupe and sedan body styles.

Pros:
  • Smooth ride and sporty handling, torquey four-cylinder engine, premium content for basic-car price.
Cons:
  • A few cheap plastic interior parts, odd exterior styling details.

I have had this car for less than 2 years and it has been in the shop 7 times now. I am very disapointed in this car. I thought this would be a better car to own, now I cant wait to get rid of it!

At first the car was cool, however the problems began within 2 months. Its too small. The interior plastic paint chips. Factory (Perelli) tires are awfull in the winter. Rear light panel shorted out completely after two times in the shop to replace all back lights. The front end pulls to the left. Had the right passenger side axle and cv joint and boot replaced and it still still pulls to the left. The rental cars are better than my car. The wind blows you across the freeway. Theres no leg room for your passengers, you feel like clowns. Tends to guzzle gas for a small car. It needs bigger rear windows (too much of a blind side) The suspension stinks. A poorly made car.

My cobalt was purchased in March 05 for $18,500. The car has been in the shop 3 times now because it will not start. Ive had to have it towed. They have replaced 2 computers so far, but they really have no clue whats wrong. This car is a lemon. Do not buy one until the next model year. By then, Chevy will fix the problem, or be chapter 11.

  • Lemon - 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

My vehicle has given me nothing but problems. My key continued to get stuck in the ignition and I had to take my car to get fixed 6 or 7 times until it was right. When I bought the car my bumper was not put on correctly. I have also had 4 different interior problems. The paint on the stereo came off, the fake chrome on the door handles was coming apart, the paint on the door pocket that you pull to close the door was chipping, and the carpet on the door was cut too short. I think the car is poorly made.

  • Stick with a foreign car - 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

I bought the Cobalt expecting to get a good economy car at a good price. I got a nice looking fun to drive car that eats gas and doesnt always work right. I have had numerous problems, all fixed, not enough for lemon status yet. The car is nice to look at and has nice features. But 19 MPG in the city and 29 on the highway says something is wrong. I could understand if it was being hotrodded around town but my wife drives it like a granny. Called GMs Customer Dis-service people and they blame the dealership, who in turn blame Chevy. My suggestion, stick with a foreign car with a good track record.

I have had my Cobalt for a month now, and it has had nothing but problems. Its been in the shop three times. First it was the AC, then it was a wiring problem causing dash and tail lights not to work, now the radio wont work. Think twice.

The clutch failed on this vehicle at 2,850 miles. Found that cruise control did not work after picking up from clutch repair and the transmission seemed to "clunk" into place after each gear change after repair. Returned to dealership and after "bleeding the lines" the car will shift gears although not smoothly. The plastic pieces on the interior of the car are warping and the "door" to the trunk button has been replaced twice. After the cruise control was replaced the plastic panel in the passenger leg area "popped off" and will need to be replaced. Fun to drive when running, but I cannot afford to be at dealership every week for repairs.
