This Year's Model Updates:

A year after its debut, the Chevy Cobalt features an expanded lineup for 2006. Most significant is the addition of a new 171-horsepower SS trim level, which is available on the Cobalt coupe and sedan. Because this would cause confusion with last year's 205-hp supercharged SS coupe, that trim level is now called SS Supercharged. The remaining trim levels are also renamed: the Base trim is now the LS, the former LS is now the LT, and the previous LT sedan is now the LTZ.

Pros:
  • Strong acceleration with any drivetrain, smooth and quiet ride, solid brakes, good crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior plastics, cramped backseat, dire lack of interior storage, dull handling, mediocre fit and finish.

  • 2006 Cobalt SS coupe, victory red - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

So far my experience with this vehicle has been great. It is fast, great on gas, and rides much better than I ever thought an American car would. Prior to this car I had always bought foreign cars but this vehicle blew mw away with its quality and performance for the price.

  • 2006 Cobalt SS Supercharged – A fun toy! - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

I had the car for one year now and 20,000 miles later, I love it as much as I did when I first drove one. So far, the car had only minor issues that were easily resolved by the dealer. Since the car is only in production 2005-2007, I am actually considering buying another one for my wife. This car is quick, fun, and brings excitement into any day! It’s a shame GM only kept the Supercharged Cobalt alive for 3 short years. I know I will keep mine for years to come.

  • My Sunburst Orange Cobalt LT - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

When I went to the dealership to pick up my Cobalt I was unsure of what color I wanted, but when I saw the orange it was mine. I left the dealership with three miles on my car. I have had a few problems with my car. I have had to have the windsheild replaced as well as the shifter and had to have some body work done. The windshield has no weather stripping so moisture gets underneath. The keys to my car would get stuck in the ignition so the whole shifting unit had to be replaced. As for the body work the headlights on my car were not lined up properly so the bumper was rubbing on the headlights causeing the paint to scrape off my bumper.

  • As good as the imports - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Purchased my new Colbalt in Feb. Already have a 2004 Saturn ION and even though I like the ION very much it is no comparison to the Cobalt. This car is solid inside and out no squecks or rattles and a great attention to detail. Without a doubt the most quiet economy car I have been in. GM keep up the good work America will eventually figure it out.

  • Great family car - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

The Chevy Cobalt is a great family car that gets terrific mileage. It is a comfortable ride, and the quiet steel exterior is a real plus, there is little outside road noise.

  • 1 year old and 18000 miles - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

I just hit 18000 miles and have yet to return to the dealer for anything other than oil changes. I drive from White Plains to NYC daily, approx 120 miles. This car is solid as a rock. I traded in an Elantra for this and the difference is night and day. The Cobalt feeling like a much more expensive car. I get compliments all the time on how sporty she looks. Its comfortable, and feels much bigger than it is. No leaks, squeaks and any other annoying problems. If I had to complain about anything it would be the gas milage. For its size the engine seems thirsty. I average apprx 24 hwy and 17 city mpg.

  • Blew away all Expectations - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Ive been driving for over 35 years and have owned more new cars than I care to count. I bought the Cobalt after shopping around for a month or so. It was way ahead of anything in its price range. I have over 5,000 miles on it and have yet had to return to the dealer for anything but an oil change. Its solid with one of the best build qualities Ive seen. I love this car. I bought the LT-2 in Ultra Silver and black leather interior. Everyone compliments me on how sporty she looks. It has every otption but power seats and all for under 19000 out the door. The electronic steering is a dream. The stereo blows away anything Ive heard. I highly recommend this car.

  • Nice try - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Im generally pleased with this new effort from Chevy. Definitely like the looks and feel. Surpised and disappointed by poor city driving mileage. Has plenty of pep and good mileage on the open road. This car needlessly weighs about 200 to 300 lbs more than its Hyundai, Corolla and Civic competitors so additional HP is wasted in my opinion. Braking required surprising effort. Interior is well laid out but somewhat plastic looking. Despite above comments, was actually overall quite pleased!

This car is wonderful to drive, I feel safe and confident when driving. I would highly recommend this car, plus it is not too bad on gas. With gas prices these days, its nice to save a little at the pumps.

  • I did my homework - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

I checked out the Civic and Corolla and was not impressed. They cost more and look boring. The interior of the Cobalt looks just as good and has just as much plastic as the Honda and Toyota. The interior fit and finish, quality of materials line the reviewers love to use, tells me the Cobalt is the real deal since I believe most reviewers are bias in favor of the Japanese models. If that is all they can say, you know the Coblat is a serious contender. My other car is a Nissan Altima so you know that I am someone who really checks things out first and just doesnt buy American. I checked out Civic and Corolla and the Cobalt won, handily.
