Overview & Reviews
A year after its debut, the Chevy Cobalt features an expanded lineup for 2006. Most significant is the addition of a new 171-horsepower SS trim level, which is available on the Cobalt coupe and sedan. Because this would cause confusion with last year's 205-hp supercharged SS coupe, that trim level is now called SS Supercharged. The remaining trim levels are also renamed: the Base trim is now the LS, the former LS is now the LT, and the previous LT sedan is now the LTZ.
- Strong acceleration with any drivetrain, smooth and quiet ride, solid brakes, good crash test scores.
- Cheap interior plastics, cramped backseat, dire lack of interior storage, dull handling, mediocre fit and finish.

Dont listen to the negative press... - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By Cobalt_fan - September 2 - 2:13 pmI started car shopping by looking at and driving everything I could get my hands on. I wanted to spend as little as possible and get a substantial car. I drove a lot of cars. I even drove a Civic. Im sick of hearing how great a Civic is! The Cobalt drives great for a lot less, especially with GM rebates factored in. I guess if the car was the same price as the Civic, I would be more forgiving. But this Cobalt can be bought for less (thousands), and is just a great car all around. For the money, the Cobalt is a good buy. Honda is doing just fine. Throw GM a bone, they finally have given us a good small car that can be proudly called American.

Fun on a budget - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By Jason - July 21 - 10:26 pmIve had my Cobalt for almost a year now and I still love it everytime I get in the car. The leather seats are comfy, the interior is stylish, and with a push of the accelerator a big smile comes to my face as the supercharger begins to whine. The car has handles great and is perfect for a fun run through some twisties and surprisingly the ride isnt too bad. Ive been on a few longer trips with the car and it was pretty comfortable. The Stock sound system sounds very good and the MP3 player reduces the need for changing cds. All of the controls are easy to reach and all displays are easy to read. All told this is a great car for those of you who want good fuel economy and fun.

2006 Cobalt 4 Dr LS Sedan Manual - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By parker08 - July 15 - 6:26 amThis car is amazing. My parents recently got this car for me. I had no idea how to drive a manual, but this car is easy to learn in. The gas mileage is great!

2006 SS Supercharged - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By An0malous - July 11 - 5:26 pmAn amazingly fun vehicle to drive. Put a cold air intake on this car, and it will howl and whine to the tune of your right foot. Handling and braking are superior, thanks to some very nice suspension, and a sticky set of pirelli Pzero tires. The potential of the peppy 2.0L engine is enhanced by aftermarket support by GM, covered under warranty, allowing you to comfortably reach 241hp. If you can control yourself to keep your foot out of it, it will reward you with a surprising 36-40mpg at highway speeds. Overall Im extremely happy with my 06 SS/supercharged Cobalt.

Fun ecomomy - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By Shawn - July 1 - 10:56 amAt the time I bought this car, I had an 87 mile one way comute to work. I was averaging 34-35 MPG. I have since relocated, and on my drive to my new location, I had averaged 41 MPG at one point of the drive I have recently noticed a dip in my fuel economy, but also received a recall notice for fuel injectors...hopefully getting them replaced will restore my original MPG. This car is fun to drive, has a great sporty look, and is pretty comfortable for 2 adults...rear seating is a little cramped. There is a lot of trunk space, but limited interior storage...an overhead compartment might be an option.

Look at better options - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By JoHo - April 13 - 4:00 pmIf youre looking for a mechanically dependable car, youve found it. But the interior quality is what could be found in a $9000 car. Its made from cheap plastic and the paint that covers it likes to chip easily. As said in earlier reviews, the housing for the sun roof likes to fall out, a lot. It honestly wont stay put. I love the feel of the car when i drive it, but the horrible quality of the interior makes me wish i could drive it without being in it.

A plum of a car - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By SBS - March 26 - 6:26 pmAfter 6 months of driving my Cobalt, I still love it. I was somewhat disappointed in the gas mileage but since I drive only 5-10 miles a day it doesnt show the possibilities plus we have not taken it on any long drives. However we have gotten 24-25 mpg on a 60-80 mile trip. So time will tell with the gasoline usage! And for those long or short trips the trunk is HUGE and amazing how many bags of groceries I can get in there!

Great Car - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By David S. - March 5 - 8:03 amBoth my wife and I just got Cobalts (one each). She went from a Cavalier I came from a Jeep (I miss my Jeep). I do have to say that this is one of the smoothest drives I have ever had. The interior is excellent and the mileage is nuts!!!

Good look, horrible car - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By xsnrg - February 15 - 6:56 amI have to say that I love the look of this car and have received numerous compliments on it. Unfortunately the cost and hassle of all the problems outweigh the look. Horrible car in terms of service standards. Have had nothing but continual problems, so much so that I will never buy GM again.

2.4 SS Excellent - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By SSport - February 12 - 9:16 pmI would recommend this car to anyone. Its a little car with a big heart. Minor problems here and there, but to be expected in a brand new car! I love it and plan to love it for many years to come!
