This Year's Model Updates:

A year after its debut, the Chevy Cobalt features an expanded lineup for 2006. Most significant is the addition of a new 171-horsepower SS trim level, which is available on the Cobalt coupe and sedan. Because this would cause confusion with last year's 205-hp supercharged SS coupe, that trim level is now called SS Supercharged. The remaining trim levels are also renamed: the Base trim is now the LS, the former LS is now the LT, and the previous LT sedan is now the LTZ.

Pros:
  • Strong acceleration with any drivetrain, smooth and quiet ride, solid brakes, good crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior plastics, cramped backseat, dire lack of interior storage, dull handling, mediocre fit and finish.

This is possibly one of the best sport compacts on the road. They are quick, agile, and fun to drive. And for those of you who are into aftermarket tuning, there are multitudes of parts either out or coming out soon.

I have driven literally hundreds of cars, and this Cobalt has the quietest interior of all. Combine that with the MUST HAVE pioneer stereo system, the electronic assist steering and the constant looks with the Blue Granite paint, what you get is the best car in the price range period. Fantastic cornering, is one feature North American cars have been lacking but not in the Cobalt. Fun Fun Fun

Just bought my Cobalt LS on Aug. 30th and so far Im really inpressed with this cars build quality. Ive owed 3 Hondas in the past and this Chevy really says something about GMs desire to compete with the foreign cars. Great styling, good gas mileage, great acceleration. Fit and finish is second to none. Very quiet & smooth ride.

One last chance for GM, mainly because of GM card credits. Initial impression is favorable. The Cobalt LS is quiet, responsive, basic. I like the higher seating position and the information display on the dash (outside temp-mileage-economy-coolant temp-trip odometers). Seats are firm, comfortable for a short ride. Fuel economy is good. Dependability is the question mark. So far-so good.

Have had the Cobalt for 4 months now, and I am very happy with it. At first there were a few kinks to work out. The engine light kept coming on, but there was nothing wrong with the car. This car is very quiet, and rides great for a compact. You can also feel the quality that went into this car. I think GM has a winner.

I drive 45 minutes to and from work everyday and I love driving my Cobalt. I love my XM satellite radio and my Pioneer sound system.

Ive had the car for two weeks only. It drive fairly well so far. I travel 60 miles a day plus and get 38 miles to the gallon. Its pretty quiet overall and handles really well.

Hi - This is my second brand new Chevy. After a couple of Fords, I bought a used S10 pickup and found it to be reliable and cheap to keep. Then I bought a new one (this was after decades of swearing Id never buy a GM). That S10 is the most trouble-free vehicle Ive ever owned. So, when it was time for a new passenger car, I compared the Cobalt to lots of similar imports and found it to have the best blend of features, performance, and economy. The 5 speed is the way to go.

Fun to drive. Quick. Great daily driver. Supercharger sounds awesome. GM offers performance upgrades.

Just bought my Cobalt SS over the weekend, so havent had it long enough to give it a true rating on gas mileage or reliabilty. That being said, car is great looking and fun to drive, and for what you get, the price cant be beat. Not an econobox, roomy interior (Im 6 ft tall) up front, good handling and performance. Pioneer 200 watt stereo with sub-woofer is awesome. Good sized trunk, sunroof, this car has everything. With my trade- in (98 Mustang conv. V-6) GM rebate ($1000) and dealer discount, drove it away for $16,400.....unbeleivable. One note, I noticed that Chevy says the center console-armrest is not an option on this model (only on the LT & LTZ), yet mine has one?
