Overview & Reviews
A year after its debut, the Chevy Cobalt features an expanded lineup for 2006. Most significant is the addition of a new 171-horsepower SS trim level, which is available on the Cobalt coupe and sedan. Because this would cause confusion with last year's 205-hp supercharged SS coupe, that trim level is now called SS Supercharged. The remaining trim levels are also renamed: the Base trim is now the LS, the former LS is now the LT, and the previous LT sedan is now the LTZ.
- Strong acceleration with any drivetrain, smooth and quiet ride, solid brakes, good crash test scores.
- Cheap interior plastics, cramped backseat, dire lack of interior storage, dull handling, mediocre fit and finish.

2006 Cobalt LS - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By mchuff - June 4 - 6:16 amA nice, somewhat sporty coupe at a very nice price. Fun to drive, manual shifts easily, good fuel economy (I ave. over 30 mpg.) Controls are easily accessable, CD standard, etc. A very nice value; good car for the money.

Work Car, and More - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By Jeff Fitzgerald - May 11 - 10:23 amWe bought this car ostensibly just to go to and from work, using our Subaru Forester for all the "heavy lifting." But I have to say that I enjoy driving this car. Comfortable, handles well, and has a lot of zip. It looks nice, and has been very solid and glitch-free. I had given up on American cars long ago, but I have to say, Chevrolet has earned another chance with this car.

Great Value - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By azdiva - May 7 - 10:23 amPerfect car for Arizona driving. Good at 85mph. Quiet, good defensive car on city freeways. Brakes, handling, and power A/C very good in stopped traffic at 115F. Good engineering. Read up and do your research. If Toyota made the worst car in the world, people would stand up to buy them. Cobalt SS is underated by far. The 2.4 ecotec is state of technology excellence

I like my car - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By LAURIEAF - May 4 - 10:56 amAlthough I have had the Cobalt for a short period of time, I would recommend it. My Cobalt is a five speed and is the third 5 speed that I have owned. It shifts gears smoothly. My sister was riding with me yesterday and she didnt even notice that I was shifting. With the gas prices so high, I appreciate the mileage I get from it. Also, I just found out my best friend purchased a Cobalt last month.

Chevy Gets It Right - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By TC - April 29 - 9:46 amThe handing is smooth and it has that big car ride quality. The engine is torquey, pulls hard and attatched to a smooth shifting 5 speed making it a blast to drive. The interior and exterior fit and fininsh are comparable to Toyota and Honda. Its got a great stereo and extremely spacious trunk. The gas mileage is awesome. Theres nothing not to like about Chevys Cobalt sedan.

Great car - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By Bruce - April 21 - 3:16 amThis is the least expensive new car I ever owned, It is fun to drive. Its got a great 2nd. 3rd gear winds out great. Got lots of coments. Going to put chrome wheels on it, and she will look great. Just a base car, but got all the right equipment. Chevy is on the right road with the Cobolt. I think its got it all. A fast little SS and a great base

Great Car, Great People, Real Fun! - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By Mike Carlson - March 23 - 4:36 amI have owned my Cobalt for a little while now. This is a great car for the price. Its a blast to drive. I look forward going to work and leaving work because of this car. The people that complain about the interior and style should have not spent the money on it and saved till they can afford a million dollar car. The interior is very clean and nice to keep that way. Performance-wise, like I said, fun!. They did a great job and I drive defensively at times and still average 28 mpg, but mostly 35 mpg. All I can say is that Chevy did a great job!

Sedan SS, what a bargain - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By ben - February 27 - 7:53 amThe 2.4SS is such a great bargain. I mean come on, a 4cyl sedan nearly breaking into the 6 second 0-60 mark and running down the 1/4 mile in low 15s for only $17 grand? You cant beat it, with the nicely laid out interior and great sound system, and the best handling in its class. I love it!

Improved Quality - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
By Primo - February 8 - 9:10 pmThe Cobalt SS 2.0 is fun to drive and a big step forward for Chevrolet in its competition against the imports of the same class. The Cobalt SS 2.0 handles nice, stops well rain or shine, and accelerates with the power of a V6.
