This Year's Model Updates:

A year after its debut, the Chevy Cobalt features an expanded lineup for 2006. Most significant is the addition of a new 171-horsepower SS trim level, which is available on the Cobalt coupe and sedan. Because this would cause confusion with last year's 205-hp supercharged SS coupe, that trim level is now called SS Supercharged. The remaining trim levels are also renamed: the Base trim is now the LS, the former LS is now the LT, and the previous LT sedan is now the LTZ.

Pros:
  • Strong acceleration with any drivetrain, smooth and quiet ride, solid brakes, good crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior plastics, cramped backseat, dire lack of interior storage, dull handling, mediocre fit and finish.

  • Good Looks, Nice Power - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Ive enjoyed the car so far, but the red and black interior will take a while to getused to. This is my second manual trans. and compared to my 94 Camaro the Cobalt is a little harder to pull out in first gear.

  • LTZ - Great Economy Car - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

I have 40,000 plus miles on my Cobalt and average 30 mpg during my 100 mile daily commute. I average about 40 mph overall. (On the highway I get 35 mpg when driving about 60 mph) Have had no issues. Car was about $10,000 less than others I was looking at. Interior is "cheap"...but it runs great and gets me to work. Original tires only lasted 40K miles, now switched to Goodyear Assurance Triple Treds, which I have had before and are great tires.

  • The car sells itself. - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Since the day I first drove the car, it has never ceased to amaze me. Powerful acceleration, superb handling, and sleek styling all contrbute to the inherent appeal of the car. For all the doubters, the power is definitely there. Ive driven it all and I say, all the competitors in its class have a problem on their hands. The supercharger makes this quite a little competitor even for the V-8 boys. The car handles well in the twisties and can take anything you can throw at it. The interior may not be up to luxury standards but its acceptable for the price range. As long as you remember what you paid for it, youll always think you got away with murder

  • Practical and Fun - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

I was pleasantly surprised at the interior design ideas that went into the Cobalt. With four children, the weight sensing air bag control made this car a practical choice for our family. The seat and steering wheel adjustments made it easy for wife, husband, and teenager to comfortably drive the car. The cup holders actually hold normal-sized cups. The car handles very well. It is responsive to acceleration, steering and braking. For a smaller car it offers a satisifyingly quiet and smooth ride.

  • Fun to Drive - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

So far my Cobalt beats my expectations. Very fun to drive! Worth purchasing the "extras", leather, moonroof, etc. Only drawback is 21MPG in the city. Traded my Camry and am very happy so far!

  • Piece of Junk! - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
    By -

I have owned my Cobalt for about 6 months. In that time I have had issues with the heating and cooling system and have had them repaired. I am now having issues with it again. There are loud griding noises coming from under the hood that the mechanics there say are "normal" from the air conditioning unit. Im sorry but there is nothing "normal" about the noise I am hearing. The gas mileage is currently running at about 13mpg in town and, if Im lucky, 27 on the freeway. A far cry from the touted mileage on this car. I do not feel this car is reliable and though I was assured I would not need a new car for many years to come, I am currently seeking another form of transportation.

  • Excellent - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Overall performance is great and gas mileage was a lot better on highway. I got better than 32 miles per gallon. I also thought the shape of the car was dynamic and it resembles other high end cars of the market, which makes this car affordable, but stylish. Recommended to young people.

  • Cobalt looks and feels like a champ - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Compared to the Dodge Neon and the Focus I would give it a higher rating. The engine noise is not that loud to freak you out and the Focus does get more gas mileage but to my opinion I think the Focus is to little for me and the Cobalt feels more comfortable. The dash and controls dont feel like theyre all bunched up into one little dsp

  • Sweet ride - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Ive only had this car for a couple months and I love it. Its fun to drive and has just the right amount of room. The only problem Ive had is bad city gas mileage.

  • Great New Car - 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
    By -

Ive owned my Cobalt for almost three months now and I am highly satisfied with it. It is leaps and bounds better than my previous car, a 2004 Dodge Neon. Its a sporty coupe, which is exactly what I wanted. Even with all the extra features ordered, it only came to 17K. While shopping, it was between the Cobalt or the new, 2006 Civic, and I chose the Cobalt because it included more options at a lower price. To receive the same with the Civic, I would have had to purchase the highest-end model. All in all, my Cobalt coupe has been a pleasure to own.
