This Year's Model Updates:

The 2.4 twin-cam engine benefits from reliability, emissions and fuel economy enhancements, and new front brake linings increase pad life. Minor interior and exterior revisions have been made, and Fern Green Metallic and Sandrift Metallic replace Bright Aqua and Deep Purple on the paint chart.

Pros:
  • Affordably priced and roomy enough for a family of four. Z24 is a stylish, speedy, low-buck sport coupe.
Cons:
  • You get what you pay for in terms of comfort and convenience.

I love this car! I have had it for about 2 weeks now and I really cant say about the reliability or the performance of the car. Just on what I have experienced its great.

The Z24 is my third car, and has been the best I have owned yet. The engine is a potent power plant that is a great starting point for upgrades. Brakes are strong and fade resistant. The suspension firm but not, harsh. The Z24 is perfect for the sport compact enthusiest on a budget. I would recommend the car to anyone

I was surprised at the quality in this price range. The reliability has been excellant as this car now has 50,000 miles.Ive driven it the last 35,000 with only a minor brake job and tune- up. The 2dr coupe has pleasing looks and could re-sell very well. Its easy to drive and park, vision is not obstructed by side pillars or a high rear deck. A very good winter driver, with standard ABS, too. Im satisfied with this purchase as 2 other Cavaliers(1986 & 1990) didnt do so well. Hope the 2003s are built this standard.

  • Great Car! - 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier

I fell in love with this car from the first time that I test drove it. The LS version has larger wheels which make for a great drive. The only maintainance that I have to do on it is the standard oil changes and services.

look I am single, working mom. I need a car that works and plays as hard as me and my daughter. I have met my match in the 99 chevy cavalier. Whoopee!!!! The gas mileage is easy on my fragile finances and hey, I look good in its sleek design...met a nice man who noticed me pumping gas...was it me he noticed or the car?

Bought this car for my daughters first. She/we have been very pleased. I put new brake pads on when we first got the car (daddys worry) and other than routine maintenance, have not touched it. Fun to drive and well built for the price. Safety ratings were good for a small, cheap car.

  • Horrible experience - 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier

Only a three years old, and I have spent over $2000 in repair already. My shifter cable has snapped for the second time tonight. Also had both rotors replaced, as well as getting one of the bearings changed as well. I THOUGHT Cavaliers were reliable. But this car proved me wrong. This car has convinced me not to buy an American car ever again.

My leased Z24 convertible is my second Cavalier Z24 and replaced the 1997 Coupe. Everything (except automatic transmission) is standard, at a reasonable price!! Ive had no major problems with either car. My lease is ends August 2002 and even though Ive looked at everything made including the RS Sport Coupe, the ZCavs replacement, Ive decided to buy out the lease and keep this car!

Engine revs quickly and is responsive. 5-speed transmission feels really nice. Clutch grabs near the top allowing fast shifts. Front and rear strut braces keep the steering tight when taking corners. Suspension is fairly stiff, you feel all the bumps but the handling is good. There are better convertibles out there, but nothing as good as this car for anywhere near the price. This car was less than twenty thousand USD new with all options selected (except automatic transmission).

Its not a Cadillac it was not made to be. It was intended to be cheap, reliable, transportation I bought mine in 06 and its a 99 and I still own it now in 2016. I paid 2,200 dollars for it and it had 80,000 miles on it. Now it has 200,000 miles on it. Change the oil regularly and your maintenance. Things I have replaced a starter, alternator and normal wear and tear. And parts are cheap because its American. Also its the 2.2l I-4 automatic my daily driver but not my only vehicle. But I think if you take care of your car it will last in my opinion.
