This Year's Model Updates:

The aging Blazer platform is due for a comprehensive redesign for 2002. As such, Blazer buyers this year will have to make do with slap-dash add-ons such as standard OnStar on the LT and TrailBlazer models. Xtreme, a new trim level on the two-door, two-wheel-drive model which includes a low-riding sport suspension lowered by 2.5 inches, body cladding and special wheels, is now available.

Pros:
  • Wide range of features and options, competent drivetrain.
Cons:
  • Spotty build quality, cheesy interior parts, uncomfortable rear seats, no V8 option.

  • JUST SAY NO !!! - 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

This is the worst vehicle i have ever owned... every year you can count on replacing the fuel pump.. if you own one of these do yourself a favor and buy the replacement fuel pump with a lifetime warranty ... it helps cut the cost down later. then you only have to pay to have the new one installed. i cant keep wheel bearings in it.. the longest it has gone is 15 months between replacements ..rear brakes calipers lock up.. was to that this is happens a lot because they use cheaper aluminum calipers and they tend to go out. once you replace the factory junk ones it seems to fix that problem.. it has a strange problem with constant misfires causing check engine light to come on. thats not all.

I bought a new top-of-the-line 2001 S10 Blazer LT in September 2001. Here it is, March 2012 and I still have it with just turning 100K gently driven miles, always garaged and properly serviced as needed. Owning this vehicle has convinced me not to ever again purchase a new General Motors vehicle. Why? Poor value. I could list the many headaches this vehicle has provided but the main one is the Dex-Cool coolant problem that destroyed the engine gaskets, clogged the heater core, stopped up the radiator and leaked coolant all over ground at a mere 69K miles. Many other premature failures on this vehicle help to explain why so many once loyal U.S. car buyers have switched to buying foreign cars.

  • Never again - 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

I purchased my Blazer in July with 38,000 m. In December at 49,000 I had to replace the transmission. Since then things have gone downhill. Ive had to replace both tie rod ends, my rocker arm, 4 door hinges, my windows get stuck in the down position in 5 degree weather. My gas gauge picks its days to work. An to top it all off again I am replacing the transmission for the second time! I have always been a Chevy fan until now. It has been the biggest lemon ever!

  • The Worst Vehicle Ive Owned For Sure - 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

Within 75k miles had the following issues: Door pins and hinges went bad. Right hub went bad. Transfer case leaks. Radiator blew. Head gesket went with it (never even got above 220). Passenger seat handle broke twice. Had to replace fuel injectors. Fuel pump is making noise. No Im not dumping anymore money into this hunk of junk! A piece of junk! I would never buy a a Chevrolet again!

  • Last GM for me - 2001 Chevrolet Blazer
    By -

In the last 10 years I have bought 10 new GM cars or trucks, and I have owned 25 GMs in my life, This Blazer is the main reason I will no longer buy GM. It had two sections of the body repainted in the factoy. Can now be seen due to low clear coat mils that have lost their gloss and some over spray. When I reported the problem to GM, they told me the paint only had a 2 year warranty. It has what feels like an out of balance tire since day one that has never gone away no mater who or how offen the tires were balanced, same for the second set of tires. The seats will not stay locked down and will slide back and forth if gas or brakes are applied hard.

  • Ive been left stranded more than once.. - 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

This truck has left me stranded on more than one occassion. Have had problems with the alternator, ingnition coil springs and fuel pump. Rides very rough. Is not roomy...back seat is almost impossible to get into unless youre 52 and weigh 100 pounds. Squeaks and rattles and idles rough. Cant wait to trade this one in.

  • You can do so much better - 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

I so regret buying this car. Im stuck with it. I bought the vehicle in July 2001 for $22000. About 7 mos later I decided I really didnt like the vehicle and decided to trade it in. Imagine my surprise when I learned that the trade-in value was about $8000. It had depreciated $13000 in just 7 mos. I recently tried to trade it in again. The trade-in value is $5800. I owe more than the car is worth. There are many things I dont like about this vehicle. Visibility is terrible. Its hard to see out the rear view mirror. For a smaller SUV, its a major gas hog. Im getting about 18mpg. My insurance is high because the vehicle has low safety ratings. There are so many quality vehilcles around

  • NO GOOD - 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

The same day that we bought this BLAZER we had to bring it back to the dealer because it was shaking. Wheels were balanced but it was still unstable. After bringing it to the dealer several times, about a year later the dealer did find out a rim was not round. It was replaced and for a while driving it was more stable, but not for too long. Now the dealer is saying the tires are out of spec & worn out. I went to Tires Plus & at least two other mechanics and the tires have threads for at least 20k more miles. The dealer fixed problems with the A/C & 4x4. I’m thinking about taken court action for the wheels.

  • Lemon Nightmare! - 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

I purchased my TrailBlazer in April of 2003, it broke down at least once a month. Both tail lights broke - twice. The car had an electrical short that no one could find. Every time I got out of the car it would shock me. Each time I took it into the dealership they would tell me it was static - yea right. I have never had a car with cloth seats shock me EVERY time I closed the door. The transmission broke - but the dealership didnt think their was a problem. Good news - as long as you dont mind punching it to 4000 rpms everytime you take off it will shift for you.

  • Word to the wise, buy something else! - 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

This is the second Chevy Blazer Ive owned, and, most definitely, the last. The quality of this product leaves much to be desired. Fortunately, I have not had to have in for too many repairs - one bad switch, which was a recall, and leaky oil cooling lines. Why does it seem that all Chevys of the same make and model have the same issues over and over again? It does not seem stable or safe. The interior components are cheap and flimsy. The engine, although powerful, is extremely inefficient! They say it gets 17 MPG average, 21 MPG highway. That is an outright lie! Im lucky if I get 14 AVG! This will definitely be the LAST American car I purchase.
