  • Bye-bye, Chev! Never again... - 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Afvter the amount of issues with this vehicle - and past GMs - I will NEVER purchase another General Motors product. Right now I am replacing my third water pump. I have spent enough money at dealerships to have purchased this vehicle twice now. I have had seven things blow in the last 6 months - rear window wiper motor, water pump, ignition module, idler arm, vacuum heater, transmission, mirror console - and three oil leaks from somewhere. Always changed oil to reccomendations and always dealer serviced once per year.

I bought it because it was cheap and I needed a little work truck/commuter. The tranny has been replaced, the AC has a leak but works if charged, the gas guage doesnt work so I have to keep an eye on mileage (270 miles per tank on average 15-16 MPG in town) The driver door spring broke off but the door still works. The ball joints need to be replaced, and the engine leaks oil pretty bad. Other than that the engine runs strong (especially after injector cleaner added to fuel). Overall, I dont mind my little beater, but it is definitely a short term solution.

This probably was a good vehicle in 1997, the day it rolled of the line, but it was a constant headache. Transmissions, yes plural, oil cooler lines, shocks, ball joints, electrical problems (no brake lights, have to jiggle the hazards to make them work) and the worst of all, gas mileage. It feels like you have a parachute strapped to the back of it!! Definitely not for one who doesnt like working for the gas pump. It looks great and does ride well, and the four wheel drive is great, but you cant really rely on it to get you anywhere without wondering if you have at least 40 bucks for gas and if its gonna arrive safely

Had nothing but problems almost from day one. Power steering leaked, oil leaked, cooling system leaked and always rattled going down the highway. I liked the interior and they way it was laid out but there was always something going wrong engine wise. Replaced alternator, power steering pump and it loved to chew thru serpentine belts. If it didnt break the belt, it squeeled so loud you had to replace it or wear ear plugs while driving. Had ball joints replaced and had problems with the brake light not working. Ended up being a switch near the floor board that had to be taken apart about every month and cleaned out then brake lights worked again. Not enough pwr to tow anything big.

I bought this suv from my father, (the first owner) he had problems with it since it was new, It had 35,00 miles on when i took it, well, you name it has broke, transmission had to be replaced, contol switches, the outside mirrors just fell off, rattles, gas gauge dont work, alt, haz button, turn signal switch, window motors, cooling system,ac leaks, paint is peeling off, braking system is weak, washer bottle leaks, the four wheel drive stopped working (two repairs),and too many things to let me list here, it seems that my wife calls me a least once every two weeks and tells me something else is wrong with the blazer. I have always been a chevy fan, not anymore.

This vehicle was the fist chevy I have every owned and it will be the last. I had it for 1 year and got rid of it as soon as I could. I have never had so many problems.

  • Junk - 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Worse vehicle I have ever owned. Major electrical issues, including multiple alternators, etc. I must carry around a box of fuses to re-energize the dash every couple weeks after the fuse blows. If I do not replace it, the battery drains and I have a dead vehicle. A total nightmare.

I sent my Blazer to the shop more times that I can count - from the spark plug wires burning out, the fuel injectors clogging up (protective coating at the factory was not removed), the fuel gauge not working, and the transmission having serious issues. In the last few years, the Blazer sat in my garage while I drove my Honda – I just did not trust the Blazer anymore after being left stranded by it too many times. Thankfully, I just traded it in over the weekend for a Toyota Tacoma Pre-Runner. I can finally trust a truck. My advice: Do not buy a Chevy. Sure, theyre like a rock... and Rocks dont move much, last I checked.

  • Chevy Blazer is a joke - 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

If you enjoy going to the repair shop, and being without your car for extended periods, this is the car for you. I treated my Blazer with kid gloves and performed regular maintenance. But it always broke down. Major repairs included the transmission, suspension, alternator, exhaust, and more. To add insult to injury, I had purchased an extended warranty. The only "guarantee" was that Chevy service would hassle you every time you brought it in and make you wait weeks at a time. Gas tank is far too small for such as guzzler, and the stereo broke three times to boot. Fun to drive, but it was in the shop so often, Im not sure.

  • too much maintenance - 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

In 5 years have put in over $3000.00 worth of repairs. Transmission rebuilt at 60K miles and again at 93K miles. Many problems with U-joints, upper and lower ball joints, and idler arms. Engine makes a high-pitched squeal when idle and when stopped. No passenger side air-bag.
