Runs great, smooth ride. For under $6000 with 58,000 miles, it is a great car for the money. I would have never spent $30,000 for a new one.

I purchased this car with 60,000 miles and had only 65,000 when I got rid of it. Nearly over 3,000 dollars was spent in repairs in less than a year. They included: door latch ($300), all 4 tie rods, mass air flow sensor, engine crank sensor, valve cover and gaskets, and coolant shut off switch. SRS, and rear shocks were bad too. Everything had too be fixed by the dealer, no ASE mechanic could service it, but had it towed from their shop to the dealer. The car came with a warranty, however, many parts were not covered, and there was a 250$ deductible for whatever was repaired. I knew another lady who had one and had even more trouble. Junk! Please do not buy.

I bought this low mileage Catera for my son because it appeared to be in excellent condition and it appeared well cared for. It was probably low mileage because it likely was in the shop all the time like I have experienced! I thought this platform was supposed to have been a well engineered Opel model brought to the U.S. to compete with the best sports sedans of the world? In the 1st 7 months, I spent over one third of the cost of the entire car on repairs! The car has nice features and is a good driving car, but I would be afraid to take it out of town in cold weather out of fear of being stranded!! I had hope to find my son a reliable car to take to college...I was very wrong!

  • Worst Car I Ever Owned - 1998 Cadillac Catera

Never have I owned such a terrible car! I had endless electrical and mechanical problems. There was something constantly wrong. GM should be ashamed for making such a piece of junk. I havent bought another GM product since this experience, nor will I ever again buy one. Anyone who buys this vehicle is asking for BIG HEADACHES and in all probability LOTS OF REPAIR BILLS!

Dont buy a Catera! We bought one in Feb. 07, and it ran great for 2 days total. Needed a new head gasket..it only had 60k miles on it. Great ride, great looking car but not reliable at all. The day we picked it up we were told by a mechanic that did not inspect the car that it was a piece of junk! He predicted either head gasket problems within 6 months. Two days after we got it, had a new radiator put in. Then, everything was leaking (transmission fluid, oil, water, brake fluid). We finally sold it for less than 1/4 of what we paid for it after 4 months..apparently everyone else knew about those problems but us!

  • To my surprise - 2000 Cadillac Catera

Im surprised by this car, Ive not had a lot of problems with my sedan. I bought this used a few years back with 48,000 mi on it after I couldnt afford to get my older 7 series BMW fixed. I sometimes forgot I wasnt in my BMW when driving down the interstate because the Catera gripped the road like a small series BMW. If you stood outside this car youd think a tall man like myself that stands 64 could never fit comfortably and then you get in, its like wow? Ive found that a lot of GM mechanics have a hard time working on my car because its German made so Ive been taking it to my BMW mechanic who feels right at home. Ive serviced this car on a reg basis and soon approaching 100,000!

  • DONT BUY THIS CAR! - 1998 Cadillac Catera

When I got this car, it had 144,000 miles on it. A few hundred miles later, I had to replace the alternator. Not long after that, I had to replace my alternator again! The car had sever electrical problems. It also had problems with the transmission. In fact, my transmission went bad while I was driving the car this caused the wheels to lock up and the brakes to become unresponsive. To make the long story short, the vehicle could not be controlled, and I ran into a tree. I spent 2 days in the hospital because of this PIECE of CRAP! I suggest that you not even think about buy this CAR! It would be a painful mistake.

I loved it ever since I bought it. I bought it at 96,000 miles. It started having problems after 2 months. The coolant light had been on, then it went off, then it started to leak, then the oil started to leak. It over heats. My radio doesnt work, it comes on and off when it wants. My check engine light has been on. Something about one of the o2 sensors. Its really fast, I love when the V6 kicks in. Especially in Sport mode. It has good handling, love the air condition. I love the sound when the radio does come on,(I dnt have the one with the Bose stereo, nor the cd player.) I love the Catera, but it needs improvement. I shoulve done more research b4 I bought it. I hope to trade it soon.

This was the worst car I have ever owned. I have had nothing but problems with it. I have had to replace every part imaginable on it. I came from a Toyota Camry and I am going to hand deliver this Catera back to the dealer. Do not buy this car, ever!
