THIS CAR HAS LEMON WRITTEN ALL OVER IT! BEEN IN SHOP OVER 30 DAYS WITH MAJOR PROBELMS. HASNT STARTED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, MAJOR A/C PROBLEMS, HEAD GASKET BLOWN OUT, FRONT TIRES WORN OUT AT 10,000 MILES, INJECTOR PROBLEM, TERRIBLE GAS MILEAGE. AND ZERO ASSISTANCE FROM CADILLAC IN TAKING CAR BACK!!!! DO NOT BUY ONE

Over the past 2.3 years, I have had this car in the shop over 10 times. I also have had problems with the water pump, leaky oil cooler, leaky gasket (which caused $1200 worth of damage), tires replaced twice, new front brakes, extensive wear on the seats, 3 new headlights, and a computer failure.

The first 36k were fine, after that nothing but problems. We have replaced the AC/Heat digital consol, timing belt, two head gasgets and the cigarette lighter in the past 6 months! The check engine light just came on two days after being serviced. The parts alone are outragously over-priced! It is hard to get to the problems that do exist because of the plastic coverings over everything under the hood. This car has been taken care of and serviced regularly.

Wow, I have been reading some of these reviews, and I cannot belive the problems you guys are having with your cars. I have had mine for 3 years and the only problems I have had are 1) broke the cupholder 2) front pitman arm bushings wore out 3) power door locks froze up a couple times. That really is not bad for 3 years of driving. I cannot believe how much these have depreciated though. Catera owners need to stop selling them for so cheap! Remember, these were $30,000+ cars when they were new!

The car is fun to drive and has great brakes. The main thing is, the dealership has had the car almost as much as I have. I am just getting my third waterpump today and I am dumping this thing. It would be a good car if it was just reliable. The dealer is of no help either. If you dont drive one of the big Cadillacs, they dont want to give you the time of day.

What a money pit! Timing belt broke at 38k miles, oil leaks, water pump, needs tires every 2 years, front brakes $500. at 43k miles, fog lights broke, brake switch NG, oil cooler seal went, runs hot, needed new heads, tensioner, valves. Poor, poor quality - high, high cost. Yuck.

  • I still love this car - 1999 Cadillac Catera

It is fun and comfortable to drive. In sport mode it has plenty of power. The leather seating and sound controls on the steering make this a wonder commute car.

  • lousy - 1997 Cadillac Catera

this car was great to drive, however i had to install two timing belts, one transmission, the previous owner also rebuilt the transmission. The drivers side heat and heated seat did not work. The price and convience of repairs were ridiculous. So much for German engineering and quality, stay away.
