  • Not Worth It - 1997 Cadillac Catera

I bought the car 2 years ago with low mileage. Since then, the tension pulley for the timing belt let go damaging the engine (fortunately under recall), needed new coil, spark plugs and wires ($1,300), new tires (bought inexpensive Cooper tires at $795), needed new brakes (not done at the dealer at $500), and now all 24 valves are being replaced, along with the timing belt that was replaced last year ($2,700). The fog lamps dont work, the passenger client control doesnt work and the radio doesnt get any AM stations. While fun to drive, it has been a horrible car because of the repairs and its cost.

  • not a good buy! - 1998 Cadillac Catera

The worst vehicle I have ever purchased, went back to the dealership too many times.Heated seat on drivers side burnt through leather and through my jacket! Both were replaced by GM but dealership did not seem to care too much.Steering rod ends last 45K miles this is why tires do not last also alot of tire shops cant do alignment because of no lip on wheel.Check engine light came on every 2 weeks.Trans module failed $650.00 fix.Hated this car with a passion just traded it in for a toyota, value of cadillac depreciated $15000 in 3 years! No more GM for us.

Car has too many problems and too expensive to fix. I recently had to do some motorwork which ended up costing me $2,100. And 6 months later im having more problems with it.

  • Tara is a fun to drive car - 1999 Cadillac Catera
    By -

I wish I had purchased Tara new. I know that the previous owner did not love her as I do, so did not take perfect care of her. I have tried to make up for this. She only has had minor problems but if you go to the wrong repair place life is hell. She needs dealer service, but so does any other luxury sports car. When you are driving this car it feels like you should be on the autobond...... She is a fast, very responsive car indeed. I wish the milage was lower as I drive alot and that takes down the value. She is garage kept and very loved. I cant believe how economical she is on gas. That helps in todays gas prices. I only hope others love their Taras as

  • At first yes and now NO - 1998 Cadillac Catera

Have had numerous problems when I got it for a honda dealership the first 2 or 3 monthes I thought I got a steal. Have experience many problems since. Interiors light behind the panel go out. Cruise control is out. Tranny is starting to slip and the AC just died at 59Kmiles. If it were more reliable I would love it. But I am afraid daily the thing is going to brake down. Oh yeah I know have a small oil leak and the engine will occasionally smoke.

This is one of our favorite cars we have owned. Overall excellent comfort and performance and fun to drive. Initial quality problems disappeared over time. The longer we owned it, the better we liked it.

This car has so many great features on it and currently (5/04) can be bought for a pretty low price compared to others in its class (but repairs will be just as expensive). Ive been very satisfied with it mechanically but there have been some electrical problems. I am concerned though as a current owner about how quickly its value has gone down.

This is the epitomy of luxury in a sport sedan. It is absolutely impossible to lose control of this vehicle on ice, snow, etc. I love my Catera!!!!!!!
