Overview & Reviews
The high-performance X5 4.6is is discontinued. The 3.0i and 4.4i receive an exterior update, as well as a new all-wheel-drive system called xDrive. A six-speed manual transmission is now standard on the 3.0i, and a six-speed automatic is standard on the 4.4i. The 4.4i also receives a new 4.4-liter engine with Valvetronic and a fully variable intake system. Both models can add Sirius Satellite Radio and Bluetooth hands-free cell phone capability as dealer-installed accessories.
- Rides and drives like a BMW sedan, multiple drivetrain choices, top safety scores, high-end cabin furnishings.
- Less interior volume than a 5 Series wagon, price goes up quickly with options, poor fuel economy in the city.

X5 Big Station Wagon - 2004 BMW X5
By Jimdog - September 25 - 2:00 amWith every company making Suvs, each company is entitled to their own vision when creating their model. The X5 is an excellent vechile in the standpoint of build quality, and luxury features. The interior is nicely laid out, everything you would expect from BMW. When you drive this suv youll notice it is smooth. But, it really isnt that much fun to drive. Very average. It feels like the Grand Cherokee I used to own. Living in Michigan, you expect your suv to hold up in bad weather. The X5 is not really suited for this. Very average in bad weather. The Awd system is not suited for heavy snowfall. My GMC Yukon is much better, for much less money in these kind of situations.

BMW Airliner - 2004 BMW X5
By guykazoo - September 21 - 2:00 amHad to order one without test driving as my dealership could not keep it in stock. Super solid vehicle. You feel like youre driving an airliner with its controls and warning beeps. Drives like a sports car and the V6 3.0 has enough "guts" for this mid size beauty. Computer a bit challenging to learn but works fine. Cannot believe how fun it is to drive this baby!

The X5 - well worht the money - 2004 BMW X5
By CAHMER - September 6 - 2:00 amThe X5 is a great SAV. It is fun to drive and handles great. The road is no longer a challange due to my bad back. The lumbar support option is well worth the money. Forget all the other SUVs! This is the ultimate!

my new X5 - 2004 BMW X5
By n king - August 26 - 2:00 amWe have had three 530s but hated the new design, so we went woth an X5. Why we ever drove anything else is a mystery to me. Weve had a number of snowstorms already, and the car has been amazing, plowing through six inches of messy snow and holding its own no matter what. It feels just like a car, has a roomy, well-designed and luxurious interior, and we love it. It doesnt have that boxy feeling of many other SUVs weve driven. Weve owned BMWs for 18 years, and theres a reason for our loyalty. The 2004 X5 does not disappoint. Now all we need is a little Z4 to match.

more fun than I expected - 2004 BMW X5
By Bimmerman - August 25 - 2:00 amI had the pleasure of driving my X5 in Germany for six months before coming back to the U.S. The X5 handles like a dream especially at high speeds. Even if the rear storage space is a little tight, it has come in handy on numerous occasions. The X5 is reliable and the performance is great.

Upgraded from 4.4i to 4.8is - 2004 BMW X5
By Tampa Rob - August 23 - 2:00 amI did a diplomatic purchase on this vehicle through Joern Esser at Passport BMW in Maryland Heights, MD. Reeves BMW in Tampa delivered the vehicle and did an awesome job getting the truck ready for me. All in all an outstanding ride with the performance to match and looks that are exceptional. I highly recommend this BMW to anyone in this market and especially so if you can qualify for a diplomatic sale - the savings are substanial.
