This Year's Model Updates:

This year, BMW will finally offer a DVD-based navigation system, though you must still give up the in-dash CD player if you opt for nav. Besides that, rear head protection airbags (optional last year) are now standard, as is an interesting new safety item called a brakeforce display -- during emergency braking situations, an extra set of rear brake lights will illuminate to warn motorists behind you. If you order the optional adjustable ride height suspension package, it no longer precludes the addition of the sport package. On the inside, new Dakota leather replaces the familiar Montana leather upholstery (it's optional on the 3.0i model and standard on the 4.4i). Individual model changes include a body-colored tailgate handle for any 3.0i equipped with the sport or premium package, and V-rated tires and an unlimited top speed for any sport package-equipped 4.4i.

Pros:
  • Rides and drives like a BMW sedan, wide range of engine choices, top safety scores, high-end cabin furnishings.
Cons:
  • Limited off-road abilities, less interior volume than a 5 Series wagon, price goes up quickly with options, lousy fuel economy in the city.

  • THE MOST COMPLETE VEHICLE. - 2003 BMW X5

If you are looking for a sports car, luxury car, and an suv all in one. I highly recommend the 4.6is. It is a true beast with its incredible high output 4.6 motor, however the exterior gives a sporty, yet elusive appearance, when compared to what this vehicle can really do. The interior and overall ride is 2nd to none. Ive driven most all cars and suvs out there , and the ride in this one is more like a ferrari combined with a rolls royce. Yet one feels like your are hi enough to look down upon the cars, but not to hi as to make you feel as if you are unstable or will flip when taking a fast turn. At 100mph it feels like 40mph.

Ive been a BMW fan for about 20 years! This X5 has all the comforts of a luxury car yet the zip of a sports car! Got about every extra except the V8. Love the heated steering wheel. The cheapest thrill in years. The GPS isnt as good as my 2002 Lexus but I would never buy another car without a GPS. Your never ever need another travel map once you get the hang of them. My first BMW had about 300,000 miles on it when a 1 Ton PU ran a stop light & Totaled it. (Not Me) Ill live by the sword (BMW) from now on!

I love this car. When I first saw it I knew it was love at first sight. It drives like a dream. It was a little pricey but it was worth it. I would recommend this car to anyone.

I looked at a lot of the new 03 and 04 SUVs and only the BMW really had the performance on the road I was looking for. Having had 3 Grand Cherokee Ltds prior, the BMW is a great step forward and much better than the ML Class Chrylser/Benz tries to put you into.

  • 2 years of Love - 2003 BMW X5

Weve had ours now of little over 2 years. WE LOVE IT. The look, the drive, the space, the feeling of power and safety It has been amazing in these tough NYC winters and the A/C is amazing in those hot & humid summers. I read complaints about fuel economy. I cant complain, the X5 begs you to drive it fast. As Im writing this we are expecting our first child. Guess what Im driving him home in? Need I say more?

  • Surprising satisfying 3.0 inline 6 - 2003 BMW X5

Overall a quality vehicle built in the USA!!!! The inline six engines performance was a positive surprise against my expectations! It has been a very enjoyable experience owning this SUV! Did not know if I was going to regret not getting the 4.4 V8 at the beginning! turned out just fine.

  • Rather Pointless car - 2003 BMW X5

This car has many fine features, wonderful build quality, comfortable seats, great handling, but ultimately it is a dissapointing way to spend $40k. The 5 series wagons are superior in every respect.

The X5 4.4i is fun to drive - handles very well, has excellent acceleration, looks great. It also has a great sound system. Sometimes it is not as quiet as I would prefer.
