This Year's Model Updates:

This year, BMW will finally offer a DVD-based navigation system, though you must still give up the in-dash CD player if you opt for nav. Besides that, rear head protection airbags (optional last year) are now standard, as is an interesting new safety item called a brakeforce display -- during emergency braking situations, an extra set of rear brake lights will illuminate to warn motorists behind you. If you order the optional adjustable ride height suspension package, it no longer precludes the addition of the sport package. On the inside, new Dakota leather replaces the familiar Montana leather upholstery (it's optional on the 3.0i model and standard on the 4.4i). Individual model changes include a body-colored tailgate handle for any 3.0i equipped with the sport or premium package, and V-rated tires and an unlimited top speed for any sport package-equipped 4.4i.

Pros:
  • Rides and drives like a BMW sedan, wide range of engine choices, top safety scores, high-end cabin furnishings.
Cons:
  • Limited off-road abilities, less interior volume than a 5 Series wagon, price goes up quickly with options, lousy fuel economy in the city.

I have x5 3.0 diesel, this is a fantastic machine with high torque, exelent fuel economy (about 35mpg in the city) in my country the diesel fuel is a half cheaper than the gas. There is no noise from the engine seems like gas and no smoke from the back like another diesel machines.

I sold a 2000 Mercedes SUV to buy this because I was disappointed with the Benz. The BMW is a much better car in all respects. The only negative is the single cupholder in the front.

The vehicle is terrific - the Dealer service is a joke. Ive been to 3 dealers in South Florida and they are all just terrible. If you are looking for good service buy a Lexus. If you want a fun to drive car, buy a BMW

We own 2 X5s . We have a Black 2002 and a Silver 2001, both are the 3.0 with automatic. The gas mileage on the highway is excellent. We drove from Detroit to the Georgia border on a tank of gas. It handles very good in the snow. We have owned 5 Ford Explorers over the years and there is no comparison. The interior is high quality and we get numerous compliments on the vehicles. The stereo system is excellent also.

i have driven suburbans and navigators. This car tops them all!!! The only thing you give up in the seating space. The back is the same amount of space. Who wants to carpool anyways????

This is by far my favorite car I have ever owned. It manages to impress me everyday, if I ever get rid of mine it will only be to buy another one.

The BMW X5 is great! It is fun, dependable, comfortable and works for our family of five. The cargo space is fine for our uses. We have a pac-a- sport to afix to the roof for baggage, etc. for trips, etc. We needed the pac- a-sport when we owned our van as well, and in fact it was more difficult to pack up with a family of five with the van. I feel my children can be no safer in any other vehicle on the market. We have the nav. system in place and do wish we could use our c.d. system on the dash rather than placed in the trunk. Not much negative input in my opinion.
