This Year's Model Updates:

This year, BMW will finally offer a DVD-based navigation system, though you must still give up the in-dash CD player if you opt for nav. Besides that, rear head protection airbags (optional last year) are now standard, as is an interesting new safety item called a brakeforce display -- during emergency braking situations, an extra set of rear brake lights will illuminate to warn motorists behind you. If you order the optional adjustable ride height suspension package, it no longer precludes the addition of the sport package. On the inside, new Dakota leather replaces the familiar Montana leather upholstery (it's optional on the 3.0i model and standard on the 4.4i). Individual model changes include a body-colored tailgate handle for any 3.0i equipped with the sport or premium package, and V-rated tires and an unlimited top speed for any sport package-equipped 4.4i.

Pros:
  • Rides and drives like a BMW sedan, wide range of engine choices, top safety scores, high-end cabin furnishings.
Cons:
  • Limited off-road abilities, less interior volume than a 5 Series wagon, price goes up quickly with options, lousy fuel economy in the city.

I Love it! Its every bit a sportscar, not a truck. Through the hills it carves the turns at 50mph like a BMW 1/2 its size!! The 8 cylinder sounds like a million honeybees when you press the throttle. The interior is amazingly luxurious. The seats are perfect. The Orange glow on the light wood is magical. There is only one thing you can say, Its a BMW. You will never want for more.

My third BMW. The last was a 528i. The X5 3.0 offers BMW handling and ride with the attributes of an SUV. Plenty of power, reasonable Highway mileage (20) no need for a larger engine. I love it except for the seats being too hard and get uncomfortable over the long haul.

BMW made a whole bunch of "goofs" on thsi vehicle. The X5 only confortably seat 4, because the middle seat in the back has all of its comfort taken away by the petruding centercolsole in teh front. Still, trunk space is extremely limited.

Ive owned my X5 for six months now and put a lot of miles on it--thus far Ive loved this car and it has had no problems whatsoever. Its fun to drive (a little too fun--you find yourself wanting to go faster than you should because you feel so safe, stable, and in control--One speeding ticket already). I recently drove a friends brand new ML 350 and it couldnt compare...The BMWs seats were softer and more comfortable, the brakes felt much better, the acceleration more zippy.
