This Year's Model Updates:

This year, BMW will finally offer a DVD-based navigation system, though you must still give up the in-dash CD player if you opt for nav. Besides that, rear head protection airbags (optional last year) are now standard, as is an interesting new safety item called a brakeforce display -- during emergency braking situations, an extra set of rear brake lights will illuminate to warn motorists behind you. If you order the optional adjustable ride height suspension package, it no longer precludes the addition of the sport package. On the inside, new Dakota leather replaces the familiar Montana leather upholstery (it's optional on the 3.0i model and standard on the 4.4i). Individual model changes include a body-colored tailgate handle for any 3.0i equipped with the sport or premium package, and V-rated tires and an unlimited top speed for any sport package-equipped 4.4i.

Pros:
  • Rides and drives like a BMW sedan, wide range of engine choices, top safety scores, high-end cabin furnishings.
Cons:
  • Limited off-road abilities, less interior volume than a 5 Series wagon, price goes up quickly with options, lousy fuel economy in the city.

  • Part Utility, ALL BMW - 2003 BMW X5

This is my eleventh auto, my third BMW, my first BMW SAV. I can not say enough good things about this vehicle. In my 13th month of ownership it continues to impress me each time I take the wheel. I keep thinking I want to go back to a car but then I drive it and I cant remember why. If your considering it I have one suggestion... DRIVE IT. I dont think you will buy anything else. The handling and ride are by far BEST IN CLASS (though I do recommend the SPort Pkg). Even in 3.0 trim its no sleeper.

HAVE HAD THE 4.4 FOR THREE WEEKS AND AT NIGHT STILL DREAM OF DRIVING IT THE NEXT MORNING. THE HANDLING IS OUT OF THIS WORLD FOR A SUV AND THE 8-CYLINDER PROVIDES MORE THAN ENOUGH GET UP AND GO. THE INTERIOR IS WELL APPOINTEDEYE- PLEASING COMBINATION OF LEATHER AND WOOD.

Fantastic vehicle. It drives like a 3 series in that the cockpit is tight. You feel very in control. Itll burn most SUVs out there - very fast. And the exhaust sounds awesome.

  • BMW X5 The best Off Roader - on the road - 2003 BMW X5

Wanted : towing vehicle for a 2.5t boat trailer and a comfortable 4 wheel drive to go to the ski slopes. Off road performance was of no interest but handling on tarmac roads vital. Its perfect. Grip & handling are superb and its very quiet and refined at speed. For me, no other SUV comes close. If I needed off-road performance, a Range Rovers best

  • Happy with X5 - 2003 BMW X5

We bought our X5 in anticipation of having our first child. The ride is great, its comfortable, and is well- made through-out. However, there are a lot of little convenience features found in other luxury cars that BMW seems to leave out. Overall, were very satisfied.

  • A good 4WD and fun to drive - 2003 BMW X5

I enjoy driving my X5 because of its overall good performance and handling capacities. However, the negatives are: noisy interiorly the engine is very thirsty limited luggage area and poor design of the cup holders.

  • Love this SUV - 2003 BMW X5

This SUV doesnt ride like a SUV. It has a comfortable ride. We have a few different friends with different SUVs and they all agree ours rides the best and also has great pick-up. It is manuverable. We only had one minor problem in the past 8 months with it. The rear window arm broke and we had it replaced. Other than that, its been great.

I owned a 02, auto/premium/sports/xenon Is almost 2 yrs old. NOT a single problem. Only oil changes. My next car, you guess...X5 4.4 6spd Auto.(also owned a Z4 for week ends)

  • I love my X5 - 2003 BMW X5

I love this car! Ive had it about 2.5 months and its survived a trip from Texas to San Diego in comfort and numerous off-road adventures. I got the premium package and the interior space is nicer than my living room. Although I wanted a car that would do a relatively good job off-roading, interior finishes and on-road handling were the most important to me and the BMW X5 has that in spades.
