Overview & Reviews
An optional sequential manual gearbox makes its way into the 2002 BMW M3, which allows the driver to shift with almost instantaneous precision without a clutch. A CD player becomes standard, the automatic climate control has been revised and rear-seat side airbags are optional for both the coupe and convertible.
- Astonishing performance, prodigious thrust, truly a bargain compared to its competition.
- Difficult ingress/egress, ride can be rough around town.

Know What Youre Getting - 2002 BMW M3
By Rakete - December 8 - 12:42 amBefore you buy, be sure to research the service histories of these cars. Model year 2002 had a series of engine recalls that are warranty items (bearing service), but necessary fixes. Be sure theyve been done and ask dealer to provide service history to prove it. If buying used, I do not recommend this model year to be purchased from a non-BMW dealer or private owner unless VIN proof can be provided that the recall service has been completed. Engine failure, while rare, is catostrophic. That said, I purchased mine from a BMW dealer with all service documentation and have had nothing but miles and smiles of glee!

4 months review w/SMG - 2002 BMW M3
By hkfooey - May 22 - 2:00 amAfter 4 months of driving my M3 with SMG, I can say that I "finally" get used to the SMG control. Just take times to figure how it works. I think that I was able to find the setting I like best (there are a total of 11 choices). Read about the previous comments on SMG problem, hopes it will not happen to me! :) Was looking at the Boxster S.. but was happy got the M3 instead.

BEWARE OF SMG PROBLEM - 2002 BMW M3
By oettinger - May 1 - 2:00 amFirst time M3 buyer loved the car for about one week. After that it was pretty much a nightmare. The SMG starts to do funny thing like switch gear from the current gear to neutral, while in motion. The problem is due to bad hydraulic causing the gear to switch from gear to neutral. The car is still at the dealer WAITING for the part to arrive sometimes this week. I am just hoping this problem wont happened to anyone who is consider buying this car. This is a great car to drive but not its reliability. If you are consider of buying one do think twice before purchase it. Dame should have got myself a C32 AMG instead.

A Simply Amazing Car... - 2002 BMW M3
By EricM - March 30 - 2:00 amLooking for the ultimate 4-seat sports car? Here it is. Nothing else approaches it. Power, handling, & braking, plus style, comfort, quality, safety - its all here in a big way. Manual transmission (or the clutchless manual SMG) keeps you in control, as a sports car should. Blazingly fast: only extreme, dedicated sports cars can overmatch it on the track, and yet practical & civil enough to be a daily driver. Its our only car! Wife drives it to work I drive it on trips and just for fun. Appearance sleek but not over-the-top. Only drawback: harsh ride on crappy roads.

And we have fun fun fun til the dady.... - 2002 BMW M3
By sbhark - March 17 - 12:13 amSMG II is a dream, the best of both world, brings manual fun without compromising real world drivability. The last time I had this much fun was when I first drove a go-kart, and Play Station 2 Grand Tourisimo 2.
