This Year's Model Updates:

For 2001 Audi introduces the TT Roadster, which retains the same interior and chassis as the coupe. Makes sense, as the coupe was designed with the roadster version in mind. There's also a 225-horsepower quattro version for both the coupe and convertible.

Pros:
  • Distinctive styling, cutting-edge interior, optional all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • Useless back seat in coupe, interior ergonomics take getting used to, lacks low-end grunt.

This car is a pleasure to drive. The thing I like most about it is strangely the interior. Everything feels rock solid and precisely designed. Im 61" and still everything is in just the right place. It feels just as solid on the road whether hitting a twisty mountain backroad, or at speeds of 130mph (and still felt like there was plenty left despite hitting the speed limiter). Its quiet too, even with the top down and at high speed. This is simply the most stylish and fun sports car currently on the market for the price. Im in love. (my wallet isnt though)

The turbo and the quattro the key to the performance. It leaps between 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Cruises effortlessly at 90- 95 in 5th. And takes long mountain curves at 90+ like its nailed to the road. Was going to buy the classic silver, if I got it new, but then saw the new colors this one is denim blue, or as I prefer VOODOO BLOO. Plan to rechip it to take HP from 225 to 265, add a diverter valve to get rid of turbo lag, and may redo the air intake and exhaust. Am actually trying to find a way to race this thing. Any ideas out there????

A few more small electrical problems than expected, ie, replace driver window twice and horn relay once. However always dependable driver. Onboard computer overly sensative but once you realize this and thqat mostly it will reset itself, becomes less annoying. Overall, a fun car to drive and the design is as momumental as an Jag XK120. I disagree with some of the editor ratings- excellent storage for this type of car. Slightly regret not having gotten the 225hp.

  • TT Roadster FUN! - 2001 Audi TT

I have nothing but terrific things to say about my TT Roadster. Fun to drive and a real eye catcher too! I only have two minor complaints with the interior design. 1. The compartment between the seats can easily be opened without knowing due to the auto latch feature. 2. The cup holders are not very well placed. I have one minor complaint with the magnesium wheel design. The lip of the wheels are easily scarred by curbs because they stick out beyond the tire.

A lot of the so-called expert reviewers knock the TT for performance (especially compared to peers such as the S2000). However,I think the car performs incredibly well for the avg. road driver and youre likely to be thrilled unless your an F-1 driver. The style and quality of construction have been well documented and there is no doubt in my mind that the TT is an instant classic destined to appreciate in value over the long-term.
