This Year's Model Updates:

For 2001 Audi introduces the TT Roadster, which retains the same interior and chassis as the coupe. Makes sense, as the coupe was designed with the roadster version in mind. There's also a 225-horsepower quattro version for both the coupe and convertible.

Pros:
  • Distinctive styling, cutting-edge interior, optional all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • Useless back seat in coupe, interior ergonomics take getting used to, lacks low-end grunt.

  • Great car to own, though has some quirks - 2001 Audi TT
    By -

Ive owned several Audis, and come to believe that design is more important than quality from this manufacturer. Dont get me wrong, this car is more fun to drive than any I have ever owned. However, it rattles a bit and could have used more time getting all the kinks out before production. Audi does not admit they made a mistake, just that their cars have "certain characteristics".

  • Mixed bag... :( - 2001 Audi TT

Awesome car if you approach it as a nice looking sporty car! Far from a real sports car. My 16 year old M3 can run circles around it except in a straight line!!! Resale value makes me want to never get an Audi ever. My first and last Audi ever. Fun while it lasted, but I cant afford to buy a car at $40K and sell it at $16K every 3 years. Much better value as a used car!!!!

  • Never again - 2001 Audi TT

Plagued with problems. In the first two years replaced: windshield washer sprayer, heated seat switch, window motor, rear wind deflector, windshield washer fluid reservoir and pump. Have intermittent check engine light. Dealer damaged car during one repair. Repeated attempts (3 page letter with 2 follow up e-mails over 2 month period)to resolve issue with Audis Customer Care Center were completely ignored. Audi talks a good game, but in my experience their customer service is nothing but lip service. I would have a hard time recommending this car to anyone.

  • Little Bump Expensive Repairs - 2001 Audi TT

Its a great car to drive, just make sure you dont bump any wheel stops in Mall parking lots. My little bump is going to cost $1,500 to fix. I had a Z3 and didnt have this problem.

  • Fun, when its not broken - 2001 Audi TT
    By -

I was so excited when I bought my TT! Great looks, 225hp and all wheel drive what more could I ask for? How about a car that can run more than a few weeks without something going wrong with it. I have had nothing but problems with my TT!! Some of the problems include: chronic noise/rattles, front-end problems so severe that after four visits they finally replaced everything to remedy the original problem, anti- lock brake problems, turbo problems, oil leaks and even the CD changer broke. All of this and only 26000 miles. The best $40,000.00 I ever spent (sarcasm)I should have bought four Hyundais! Dont make the same mistake I made....... avoid Audi!!

  • Fun car, but more rattles than a maraca - 2001 Audi TT
    By -

I loved, absolutely loved my Audi TT. Great ride, handled beautifully, absolutely WONDERFUL performance with the 225 HP 1.8T - I never had a moment where I wished the car had MORE power. Grip was wonderful in the snow, the interior design was absolutely classic. However, I eventually had to sell it due to just too many recurring rattles that made it feel like you were driving a vehicle much cheaper than you were.

  • Modified TT Rag - 2001 Audi TT

First off, this is my second TT. My first, was a Black 225 Coupe. I loved it. I drove it 50K miles in the first year and sold it to buy the Roadster. I was able to find a leftover 2001 225 in silver. I have since dropped the car an inch using Eibach Springs and added 18" wheels. I have also installed an Alpine Head Unit featuring XM radio. I have not had any issues with the car. It is solid and fun to drive. Its looks are unique and striking. Kudos to Audi!

  • Munches Auto Glass - 2001 Audi TT
    By -

On hot days (100+ degrees), windshield cracked from passenger side (just at the dash) across the field. Parked and reading newspaper. Two cokes and three newspapers later, heard a muffled "piff". Looked up to see crack grow 4-5 inches. Temp 102+. Month later, car parked for about a week (drove beater to work every day). Had a 100+ day. Found crack growing from the same spot as before. My new friend, the auto glass man, confirmed increased TT business in the area... A couple of weeks later, the glass man returned for his third visit. Hot day, car parked. Design flaw? Crummy glass? Bum installation? Body flex?

  • Tons of Fun! - 2001 Audi TT
    By -

Great car, nothing but tons of fun on the roadways. After three years of being on the market, the body style is still unique and catches the eye and approval of all. Easily fits two sets of golf clubs in back which make it a very practical sports car. The TT does not have the same raw quickness and feel as a frinds BMW Z3 3.0 , but not many cars do. The TT certainly has enough get up and go and roadhugging guts to satify all but the most experienced and trained drivers. Second and third gearswhen pushed through the 2000-6000 RPM range is quite a rush. I cant wait til the new V8 Audi A4 hits the showroom!

  • TT= Tempermental transportation! - 2001 Audi TT

I have owned the car for less than a year and it has been in the shop 2 1/2 weeks. Audi has replaced the electronic central locking system, the instrument cluster twice (it is still not working properly), both horns, both window motors, the turbo bi valve, and had to fix many rattles and creaks. I love the car but am quite frustrated with it and I doubt if I can afford to keep it past the warranty period. This was going to be my dream car but it has turned into a nightmare. The Audi corporation is virtually no help. I am glad I have a good dealer. They are as frustrated as I am with the problems of the car. Great design, poor e
