Ive owned my S4 for the past 3 years and now its time for a decision between a new lease or Buy out. I drove the new V8 S4 and even though it seemed more refined in a luxury feel it was a pretty easy choice to continue on with my 01 S4. The S4 has been an all around performer, not as confidence inspiring as the Boxster I had previoiusly but still a real kick to drive. I never did chip it but I did drive one and its the next step since deciding not to go with an 05. Lots of aftermarket goodies will keep me happy for awhile. The power is great on back roads due to the high torque, not as great in a drag race. This car is a real kick when in and out of the throttle in the twisties.

It does everything great. Fast, fun, comfortable. It even has a big trunk to swallow everything i can throw at it. I travel to Lake Tahoe every year and this thing is unstoppable on winter tires. Throw it sideways on ice and it is instantly recoverable. Drove to Vegas one winter and the entire highway was black ice. 350 cars got in accidents. I was the only car to make it through the highway. The Red Sea of SUVs parted as they spun into the ditch as i drove right through the middle of them on summer tires. Not a single car on the road the last 15 miles

Abundant power, lots of aftermarket performance and style additions available. Its a nice stealth sedan, doesnt draw unwanted attention from the authorities.

I got this car as an early 18th birthday present. paid $29k for it online. This is probably the fastest car from 0-40 in the world, and i am saying this b/c you get your max torque at 1850 RPMs, so off the line you step on it and go. Since buying this car, i have dropped about 10k in APR products and im putting down 375HP/400 torque on stock turbos, mind you that 400 torque comes in at 1850 RPMS. Anyone who gets this car should get the ECU upgrade, because for <1000 dollars you will get approx 70HP/110 Torque. Car handles great w/ stock brakes, even better w/ brembos. Great all around stock car with loads of potential to be modified into a supercar.

I own an 4-Runner and a 00 Boxster, but I need another car (Since Boxsters lease is ending shortly, and my mother wants to use the 4-Runner, plus, I am getting marry soon.) I pick the S4 because: 1) Fast, with a Chipped ECU it can get you over 300 hp and 350 tq/ft 2) 4WD, no need to worry about weather 3) Rich in features: comes with Bose stereo system, heated and 8-way power seat, glass sun roof, all dim mirrors, roof bike rack, ESP, etc. 4) Space is about the same compare to BMW and a bit better then IS300 in terms of cabin and rear trunk space. Compares with 325i Wagon or IS300 Wagon, I think this is a better buy ($$ vs features, comfort and power).

  • living with an S4 AVANT - 2001 Audi S4

I went from an A4 avant to an S4 avant by accident. I visited the dealership to purchase some touch-up paint for the A4...a friend there asked me If I liked the S4, to which I replied yes except for the shift linkage. He tossed me the keys to an S4 AVANT Tip and said "go drive this for a while" well after an hour I ended up with a new car! It has been flawless for me and is great fun to drive. most people dont realize that a little eurpoean stationwagon can turn in a sub 6 second 0-60 time. It performs flawlessly in daily city driving as well as extended road trips. If it has a flaw it would be that at 120 mph you feel like you are doing 60. I LOVE this car!

5.5 sec to 60mph the 04 S4 with 340hp is only 0.1-0.2 sec faster and has a very harsh ride but a little better handling and shifter (but at a $50K price). Winter requires snow tires. Large trunk and full-size spare tire. Owners manual calls for 0w-30 or 5w-30 oil the local dealer only carries 10w-30 so I have to bring my own oil in. Only reliability problem was a seat heater needing replacement at 49K. Nice Bose needs bass help the Avant has a subwoofer. Touchy brakes stop quickly. Ive averaged 24.4mpg since 3/01 - trip computer exaggerates mpg by 10%. I track every fill-up. Over one 10K stretch, the trip computer overstated the actual by 2.4 mpg
