  • Another nice Audi quattro Wagon - 1999 Audi A6

Our experience has been typical of our previous VW and Audi vehicles. The major stuff (engine, transmission, quattro, etc.) is bulletproof. The cars structure is very solid, and possesses that wonderful German feel when driving or simply closing the hefty door. It is the little things, such as broken switches and failed electronic modules, that will drive you crazy (as they deplete your bank account). Dealer network is inconsistent, ranging from "were an (affluent) Porsche/Audi luxury car dealer, and intend to treat you accordingly," to "our other franchises are VW and Honda, and we plan to handle you in a similar less-than-refined manner."

We like the car but it is slightly underpowered and too many little things go wrong i.e., spearkers(one front one rear). The brakes make too much dust and the climate control will allow the temp to get too hot on cold days before getting the correct temp. The fuel pump went out over night so the car had to be towed in to be repaired. The cost of the pump was $350 and was not in stock.

  • Great car, expensive to maintain - 1999 Audi A6

The Audi A6 wagon has been a pleasure to drive. Its single drawback is a grossly underpowered engine. Although the numbers tell you that you can do 0- 60 in 9.5 sec., it sure doesnt feel it. The car is solid and heavy, which may contribute to the slow sensation. My biggest dissapointment was a $1,200 repair bill three months after the 36 month warrantee expired. All of the repairs were for items that had declined overtime and appear to be not unexpected in Audis (air conditioner sensor / controller failure, ignition key mechanism failure. Maybe the new 48 month warrantee will catch these things, if not, enjoy he car but watch out.

  • Cant ask for more - 1999 Audi A6

My previous car was a BMW 325i (E36). I bought the A6 in 99 after we have our second child to have more room. Comparing to the BMW, the A6, I has more room, comfort, luxury less sportiness. This is my third year owning the car. Ive only experienced one problem. The steering got stiff. That was fixed under warranty. The Quattro is tremendous. I live in the hilly area of Portland, Oregon, where they dont salt or sand the roads when it snows. The A6 have no problem making it through the hills, even with stock tires. My 3 year lease is up next month. I will buy the A6 because I like it so much.

Very stylish and comfortable and quiet cruiser. Last car was a Land Rover Discovery. This is a much better car to travel in. Ive had it into service too many times -- new power steering pump, and a few electrical glitches. Im fortunate it is under warranty.

  • Good so far... - 1999 Audi A6

So far, so good. Just purchased the 1999 A6 after a lot of research, and many test drives. Also seriously considered 5-series, C-Class MB, ES300. The A6 got the nod bc of the balance of comfort & performance. Interior room & comforts is very good, and shifts smoothly bw gears. Handles curves real nice - inspires confidence. Fun to drive for a entry-level luxury vehicle. Only complaint is the poor gas mileage. Some do not like the exterior styling - its a love it or hate it thing.
