Overview & Reviews
Acura is an upscale automaker known for offering cars with impressive levels of luxury, features and performance. It's come a long way in a short time, however, as the history of Acura is relatively brief. Parent company Honda introduced the Acura brand to the U.S. market in 1986 in an effort to create a separate luxury division for its products. At first, it was just a two-car show: the Legend sedan, which was the first true Japanese luxury car sold in America, and the Integra sport coupe and sedan.
Though essentially a marketing creation for the North American market, the Acura brand was immediately successful. Consumers liked the features, performance and upscale image of Acura cars, along with the fact that Acuras were backed by Honda's reputation for reliability and low ownership costs. In 1991, Acura introduced its crown jewel: the all-aluminum NSX sports car, which offered performance close to that of other exotic cars while undercutting them in price.
As Acura's product line grew in the 1990s, however, the company struggled a bit. Some of its products were duds, and it risked alienating loyal customers when it replaced the Legend and Integra names with alphanumeric designations. The company jumped on the hot luxury SUV bandwagon in the mid-'90s with the SLX. Unfortunately, the SLX was just a rebadged version of an Isuzu SUV, and its quality did not match customers' expectations.
For the new millennium, Acura revamped its product range. An all-new SUV called the MDX debuted, sporting numerous family-friendly features, including a third-row seat. The Integra was replaced with the RSX sport coupe, and an all-new entry-level sport sedan called the TSX was introduced after that. A complete redesign of its most popular model, the midsize TL sedan, followed, as did a redesign of its flagship RL luxury sedan.
By mid-decade the NSX was gone, but Acura filled out its model lineup with the street-performance-oriented RDX compact crossover, the TSX wagon and the ZDX, a fastback-styled crossover that placed unique styling over practicality. Today Acura is still trying to find its ideal niche but there's no denying the quality of Acura's vehicles, nor their appealing mix of performance, technology and value.

Excellence - 2005 Acura TL
By George - October 14 - 2:50 pmI recently leased the car thinking I wasnt going to drive it much and use it when its needed, but now I cant stop driving it and I use it when I dont really have to. The car outperforms on a laaaarge scale. I had an 03 Type S and it really doesnt even compare Acura listened to the people and added the little niks n nacs that are important to the consumer. It gained leg room in the rear, the stick shift is out of the world fun to drive, accents on the interior are awesome, the addition of brembos to the stick model was phenomenal the the only thing I dont like about it is that 1st gear is extremely short so you have to shift out quickly before you top out without realizing.

Just My Opinion - 2001 Acura MDX
By Joy K - October 13 - 2:00 amReal happy with the look and reliability of the MDX. Wish it didnt need premium fuel. Get lots of compliments on it wherever we go. I think it has too much interior noise, but I think that got improved in 2002.

What a great car!! - 2007 Acura MDX
By Barry - October 12 - 3:56 amAfter a couple of months, of trying to convince my wife to trade our 2004 Lexus GX 470, I finally wore her down and we (she) reluctantly bought the Acura. One of my concerns was moving "down" to an Acura from a Lexus. I was extremely wrong, this is one high tech machine, the navigation system offers more features, but is much more user friendly than the Lexus, The entertainment package gives the kids the option of listening to their choice through the headphones while the adults can listen to something different through the speakers & handling on this car is unbelievable. You can even set the doors to lock/unlock at the speed of your choice & the remote to open 1 or all doors w/ 1 touch.

MDX is Best All-around SUV - 2002 Acura MDX
By imbuer - October 12 - 2:00 amAfter shopping all the others for over 6 months, we decided on the Base MD-X (2002). We almost bought an X5 4.4, but it is too costly and no where near enough room, (and the 3.0 doesnt have enough power). After almost a year of ownership, we like it even more than we thought we would. Incredibly smooth and effortless power/torque, great gas mileage (up to 26 average on highway), pretty good handling (but not quite as good as X5), and plenty of room for hauling, tailgating, etc. The base sound system is more than adequate, and by buying the Base MD-X instead of Touring, you make up some for paying close to MSRP.

What a Car - 2002 Acura RL
By jaru - October 10 - 2:00 amI still have my Legend that is now 10 years old. Not a dime on repairs. Now this new 3.5 RL seems even nicer. Less than a thousand miles, but already in love with the car. Its quiet, smooth, and very much a luxury car. The build is quality and the handling is quick and stable. Not one thing that I can find as yet a negative. And most of all a steal at $35.500.00. That is only 5600.00 more than I paid 10 years ago for my Legend. What else can I say, oh yeh who needs a V/8? Power galore. Hurry go get one, and youll love yourself forever.
