Overview & Reviews
Acura is an upscale automaker known for offering cars with impressive levels of luxury, features and performance. It's come a long way in a short time, however, as the history of Acura is relatively brief. Parent company Honda introduced the Acura brand to the U.S. market in 1986 in an effort to create a separate luxury division for its products. At first, it was just a two-car show: the Legend sedan, which was the first true Japanese luxury car sold in America, and the Integra sport coupe and sedan.
Though essentially a marketing creation for the North American market, the Acura brand was immediately successful. Consumers liked the features, performance and upscale image of Acura cars, along with the fact that Acuras were backed by Honda's reputation for reliability and low ownership costs. In 1991, Acura introduced its crown jewel: the all-aluminum NSX sports car, which offered performance close to that of other exotic cars while undercutting them in price.
As Acura's product line grew in the 1990s, however, the company struggled a bit. Some of its products were duds, and it risked alienating loyal customers when it replaced the Legend and Integra names with alphanumeric designations. The company jumped on the hot luxury SUV bandwagon in the mid-'90s with the SLX. Unfortunately, the SLX was just a rebadged version of an Isuzu SUV, and its quality did not match customers' expectations.
For the new millennium, Acura revamped its product range. An all-new SUV called the MDX debuted, sporting numerous family-friendly features, including a third-row seat. The Integra was replaced with the RSX sport coupe, and an all-new entry-level sport sedan called the TSX was introduced after that. A complete redesign of its most popular model, the midsize TL sedan, followed, as did a redesign of its flagship RL luxury sedan.
By mid-decade the NSX was gone, but Acura filled out its model lineup with the street-performance-oriented RDX compact crossover, the TSX wagon and the ZDX, a fastback-styled crossover that placed unique styling over practicality. Today Acura is still trying to find its ideal niche but there's no denying the quality of Acura's vehicles, nor their appealing mix of performance, technology and value.

a better car - 2005 Acura TSX
By chucky - September 20 - 8:56 pmIve had this car since Jan. 2004 and so far everything went fine until recently the tail lights were not working properly. It was due to the Harness Recall. The front right headlight seal broke or was not properly packed when assembled at the factory since water was filtering to the headlight. The front right axle boot had a cut so it had to be replaced. The TSX is not as fuel efficient as estimated. It will go only 330 miles with a full tank. The sound system needs some work. The car needs more power. After all if you are looking for an entry level luxury car this is is for you. Since the chances are you will not find anything like a TSX for less.

Excellent Car!!! - 2005 Acura TL
By Bret - September 20 - 7:53 pmThis is my 3rd Acura TL I have owned. All three of them I have thoroughly enjoyed, but when I saw the new TL in 2004, and how different it was from the other ones I have owned, I had to have it. The syling is very unique, finally different, and I love the interior. The DVD sound system is excellent, and Im convinced the Acura Navigation system is the best and most user friendly on the market. I love the voice recognition in the car is really nice, and I use it non stop. I use the blue tooth phone in the car all the time, and the only negative to that is I feel the Voice recognition on the blue tooth needs some fine tuning. All in all, a very nice car to own.

A foregone conclusion - 2003 Acura TL
By StickyBear - September 20 - 2:00 amMoved into this car from a Toyota Solara SLE V6. Head and shoulders better for about $4K more. What a deal! Also tested the 330i and the A4 3.0, but for the price the Acura is untouchable!

Lots of car for the money! - 2003 Acura TL
By Mike712 - September 20 - 2:00 amGreat Car! I was looking at Maxima SE, and Passat V6. This car is fast and sporty, with a heavier feel to it than the Maxima. The Maxima lacked the heavier European driving feel, while the Passat lacked the horsepower.

Are You Kidding Me? - 2003 Acura TL
By tommiek - September 20 - 2:00 amIf you even consider purchasing a Lexus, Merc, BMW, or Audi (of comparable class) you should get medical help! THis car has everything you could want - horsepower, style, reliability, EVERY option at the absolute best price! Too much fun to drive .

How cool is this car?!! - 2004 Acura TL
By John R - September 17 - 7:36 amOne full year of ownership and I am still as in love with this car now as the day it was delivered. Incredibly comfortable, incredible DVD audio (with the right discs), outrageously fun to drive and still has valets telling me how cool it is. Although Ill admit to changing all the interior lights to blue LEDs to match the dash and this seems to draw the most comments. I have three more years on my lease and Ill either get another TL or upgrade to an RL. Im an Acura driver for life after this car - its that good.

Love this car - 2004 Acura TL
By fartnocker - September 16 - 2:00 amMiles beyond the old TL. Theyre really taken this car up-market with only a slight increase in $$. XM is awsome, as is the large Nav screen. This is a homerun for Acura. Cant wait to see what the next RL has in store!
